What’s The Contest?

The Doritos contest that started at the end of May serves to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence from England. In honor of the anniversary, Doritos is making the prize for this contest $250,000. The contest is called Red, White, and Bold, and what you need to do to be considered for the grand prize is sculpt an iconic American landmark out of Doritos. Literally, Doritos. The Doritos contest page says, “Whether your sculpting Lady Liberty or the Capitol Building out of Doritos, every build is a shot at $250k.”

To make it even easier for customers to be considered for the prize, Doritos has launched a “workbench” so that you can have a better understanding of structural stability, adhesive, and how many Doritos you’ll actually need. They even have a list of all monuments accepted for the contest. After you plan, build, and submit a photo and video of your final sculpture, you will be considered for your chance to win. The contest ends on July 31, 2026. And all participants must be 18 years and older.

Real Contest Or Gimmick?

Here’s the thing, the contest may be silly, but it offers the chance to win a life altering amount of money. And while many people right now are struggling to put food on the table, this could be a chance for a family‘s life to change directions entirely. However, the contest does require the participants to invest in the materials needed to build the sculptures in the first place without a guaranteed return. The question then remains, how good of a sculptor are you?
