We just reported on the newest Oreo flavor last week, and now we’re already getting a taste. It’s like Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and eat a new Oreo flavor once in a while, you could miss it.” It’s a good thing it all happened so fast, because after hearing about the new first-ever sweet-and-savory Oreo flavor, we really couldn’t wait.
In case you missed it, this limited edition new Oreo flavor consists of pretzel-flavored cookies topped with actual salt, sandwiched around chocolate flavored creme. Sounds great—but is it? Chocolate-covered pretzels are among my favorite treats, so my bar is high. Let’s dig in.
Pros: The cookies really do have actual grains of salt on them! They could be bigger, sure (let’s get some Maldon flakes involved), but they’re still real salt grains! They offer pops of salty flavor to contrast with the sweet, silky chocolate creme, which, as one of my fellow tasters noted, is creamier and less grainy than classic Oreo creme. The cookies themselves are also quite good. They taste like extra toasty tea cookies—nuanced and grown-up for an Oreo flavor. Overall, you still get an Oreo experience, but in a totally new way. We all really enjoyed these new Oreos and would love to see them join the core line-up.
Cons: While this new Oreo flavor tastes good, for sure, it doesn’t taste like a chocolate-covered pretzel. The cookie may be salty, but it doesn’t have that slightly malty flavor of a pretzel. And the creme, while delectable, is not actually chocolaty. If you’re a stickler for truth in advertising, then you might be let down by these new Oreos, but if you’re simply looking for a tasty, sweet-and-salty cookie experience, you gotta try these. And, since they’re limited edition (another con), you better act fast.
Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients.
Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it.
What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now).
Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test!
Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.

Honestly these were the worst oreos I’ve had in a long time. The actual cookie part is just awful. Trying to make a cookie taste like a pretzel just doesn’t work. The filling is fine and helps overall, but it was a chore to finish these.
