Since the brand launched in 1912, Oreo has created over 85 original cookie sandwich flavors ranging from the typical dessert palates of chocolate, vanilla, and mint to some more outside-of-the-box bites like watermelon, wasabi, and hot chicken wing. Fortunately, I never tried that last one, as it was released exclusively in China, and I have never been to China, but I have tried way too many of the new Oreo flavors available in the United States and have rarely been disappointed. Sure, some are better than others, but generally speaking Oreo knows how to make a cookie sandwich. You might be thinking, they’ve done it all. Wrong! They’re back with another fresh new Oreo flavor: Chocolate Covered Pretzel Oreos! And believe it or not, this is the first sweet-and-savory flavor combo they’ve done (I guess hot chicken wing is just savory?). Regardless, sweet and savory squad rise up!
How are they capturing the flavor of a chocolate covered pretzel in Oreo form?
That’s a great question, thank you for asking. My initial imagination was that the cookies would actually be pretzels and would sandwich chocolate filling, a pretty straightforward approach to a chocolate covered pretzel Oreo. But no, that would be far too easy and ultimately not a cookie sandwich, thus not an Oreo. Instead, the new Oreo features chocolate cream sandwiched between two pretzel flavored Oreo cookies, topped with salt. Personally, I think the whole topped-with-salt business has to be the most exciting part.
When do the Chocolate Covered Pretzel Oreos drop?
The limited edition Chocolate Covered Pretzel Oreos will be available nationwide starting May 5, while supplies last. When they’re gone, they’ll be gone forever (or until Oreo brings them back), so if you see ‘em, and you want ‘em, then buy ‘em.
