Heinz, one of our leading sauce purveyors, has been on the forefront of delivering new and unique condiments. Between the Flavor Tour trio of internationally-inspired sauces and the recent Chipotle Honey flavored MUSTAAAAAARD collaboration with DJ Mustard, Heinz is focused on getting you the perfect sauce…which reminds me of something they quietly announced a few years ago. Have you ever heard of Heinz Remix?

What is Heinz Remix?

You know Coca-Cola Freestyle? It’s like that, but for condiments. Back in May 2023, Heinz announced the Heinz Remix machine: a customizable sauce dispenser that lets you choose bases, modifiers, and the intensity of those modifiers. You start with up to two base sauces: ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, ranch, or barbecue sauce. Then, choose up to two modifiers: jalapeño, chipotle, Buffalo, mango, garlic, or bacon. Finally, choose the strength of your modifiers: low, medium, or high.

Couldn’t you just do that with a robust selection of condiments and seasonings?

Yeah, I can also grow all my own vegetables and carve my own forks out of fallen tree branches—that doesn’t mean I want to do all that. The idea of prodding a touchscreen until it spits garlic mayochup onto my hamburger brings me more joy than I can put into words.

As a nation, we love mixing sauces; Taco Bell just did it on an industrial level with their Mike’s Hot Honey Diablo sauce (and let’s get that back as a permanent option ASAP, while we’re at it). I won’t rest until there’s a Heinz Remix in every newfangled chicken restaurant. That’ll be particularly difficult since I swear a new chicken tender chain pops up every other week these days. (Has anyone besides me tried KFC’s tender-focused concept restaurant “Saucy” down in Orlando?)

Where can I try a Heinz Remix machine for myself?

As of this past April, three Epic Burger locations in Chicago do have operational Heinz Remix machines available to the public. Unfortunately, beyond those, there’s no confirmed public list of locations where you can check out a Heinz Remix machine for yourself. The Heinz Remix website states that the machines were first tested at “5 university locations, 1 stadium, 10 QSR locations, and 3 office locations.” At the time of this writing, I can’t find any information regarding whether any of these test locations still feature Heinz Remix.
