There are a lot of Heinz sauces. I knew about the mustards and the relish and Mayoracha and the ketchup (obviously). But the gravies? The BBQ sauces? The many, many, many types of ketchup? I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of Heinz condiments I laid out in front of me for this taste test—there were 26 in all, and we didn’t even manage to source every single one. (Don’t worry, Heinz superfans, we’ll continue to update this ranking as we track them down.)
We tasted each of these sauces straight off a spoon, at room temperature (watch the video at the bottom of this article to see for yourself). We were looking for unique flavor, utility, and texture. We wanted to find the best Heinz flavors that should be in your fridge or pantry at all times because they’re either the best within their condiment category, or they offer something totally new but necessary.
Here are 26 Heinz sauces, ranked from worst to best. If you think you know what number one is, guess again.

- HomeStyle Caramelized Onion & Thyme Gravy
-
Premade gravy is a tough sell. Thickened meat juices in a jar? Not the most appetizing of condiments. However, if you’re making mashed potatoes without an accompanying roast or are the type of person who likes gravy with their fries (Canadian), it’s a very useful thing. And Heinz makes some pretty good gravy. This is not one of them, though. This one promises rich caramelized onion and aromatic thyme. Instead it’s watery and tastes like the old dried herbs from the back of your pantry.

- Tomato Ketchup No Sugar Added
-
I always knew there was a lot of sugar in ketchup but I never really appreciated how important it was until I tried this Heinz ketchup. It’s so tart and sour. It just tastes like ketchup that’s missing an ingredient. Because it is. I understand there are people who need to limit their sugar. And some of them want ketchup. But I think you’re better off just learning to love mustard.

- Spicy Brown Mustard
-
First of all, this spicy brown mustard is not spicy. Otherwise, it starts out as a perfectly standard brown mustard. But then the aftertaste is bitter and it really sticks around. That’s why it’s here, way down the list of Heinz condiments. There are better spicy brown mustards out there, trust us, we found them.

- Tomato Ketchup No Salt Added
-
Heinz No Salt Added Ketchup tastes like it belongs on ice cream. Without the salt, the sugar takes over and you’re left with a condiment that is far, far, far too sweet. Again, I know there are people whose diet requires them to cut down on the salt. And I know those people still want something to put on their burgers and in which to dip their fries. To them I once again say, have you considered mustard instead?

- BBQ Sauce Original Sweet & Thick
-
I wasn’t enamored with any of the Heinz BBQ sauce flavors we tried, to be honest. But this one in particular fell flat. It’s quite sweet without enough of that BBQ sauce tang needed to balance it out. There’s a nice hint of pepperiness that almost saves it, but mostly it tastes like sugar and liquid smoke. I guess if you really just want a product that follows through on the name, this one gets high marks. It’s sweet. It’s thick.

- Chili Sauce
-
I want chili sauce to taste like chili peppers. This one does not. It tastes a bit more like salty tomato sauce. Actually, it tastes a bit like the “fancy” ketchup you get from a restaurant. The stuff you try and think, huh, why don’t they just buy regular Heinz ketchup? I’m not totally sure what this sauce is for. It’s not as useful as regular ketchup. It’s not as spicy or flavorful as sweet chili sauce. It’s not as zesty as cocktail sauce. What’s its deal? Let me know in the comments.

- BBQ Sauce Texas Bold & Spicy
-
The name gets it half right. This Heinz BBQ sauce is quite bold. But it’s not spicy. It almost tastes like plum sauce. It’s rich and thick and it would taste pretty good on a chicken nugget—or even roast duck. But it’s missing some nuance and it’s definitely not spicy.

- BBQ Sauce Carolina Vinegar Style
-
If you’re looking for the best Carolina-style BBQ sauce, check out our ranking of the best BBQ sauces. You’ll find a few better candidates on that list. This one is tangy and sweet and there’s even a little bit of heat, but it’s oddly fruity. It’s distracting. It’s also a looser BBQ sauce than the others, which is in line with the Carolina BBQ sauce style. But it makes it less of a utility condiment. It’s really only good for pulled meat.

- BBQ Sauce Kansas City
-
This is the best out of the Heinz BBQ flavors we tried. It’s quite thick and quite sweet and quite smoky. It needs a bit more tang. But it’s still interesting and complex enough to satisfy. I think this Heinz sauce would be quite good on a big, thick, steakhouse-style burger.

- Sweet Ketchili
-
Ketchup plus sweet chili sauce equals Sweet Ketchili. It’s not the best of all the hybrid Heinz flavors—it leans more sweet chili sauce than ketchup—but it would still be a good dipping sauce for little popcorn shrimp or just some french fries. And while there are better sweet chili sauces out there, if you don’t live near an Asian grocery store, it might be hard to find them. This is a pretty decent substitute.

- Limited Edition Harissa Flavored Aioli
-
We gave this new Heinz sauce a middling score in our original review. While the flavor is good—it tastes like real harissa—it doesn’t have enough of that flavor. It mostly tastes like sweet, tangy mayo. But the red pepper heat comes through and if you slathered this on a chicken sandwich I wouldn’t complain.

- Honeyracha
-
The tang and spice of sriracha meets the gooey sweetness of honey in this hybrid Heinz sauce. I was surprised how much actual heat came through—it really gets spicy the more you eat! It’s different from hot honey. That’s much more honey focused. This is very much its own thing, and it would be quite good as a dip for fried chicken or a glaze for chicken wings (or cauliflower wings, for my vegetarian friends out there).

- Buffaranch
-
Yep, it’s Buffalo sauce and ranch, together in one bottle. Because some people don’t have the time it takes to dip a Buffalo wing into ranch—and they want that flavor now! The Buffalo is definitely the star of the show. It’s tangy and a touch spicy. The ranch is there more for body than anything else. I wish there was more herbaceousness from the ranch dressing, but it’s still one of the better Heinz condiments out there. Good for sandwiches. Good for dipping veggies. And, of course, good for wings.

- HomeStyle Herbes de Provence Gravy
-
I told you Heinz makes good gravy. This one is much better than the caramelized onion stuff. It really tastes like chicken drippings and (mostly) fresh herbs. It gives Thanksgiving, for sure. If you’re using it as a dip for salty things like fries or fried chicken, then it’s totally fine as is. But, if you’re using it as a sauce for mashed potatoes or meat, you might want to add a little bit of salt.

- HomeStyle Roasted Garlic & Rosemary Gravy
-
Though the herbes de Provence gravy is quite good, this is really the star of the Heinz gravy show. It has a strong rosemary flavor with underlying notes of roasted garlic that make it shine. It’s honestly some of the best jarred gravy I’ve ever tried. If you warmed this up in the microwave and served it in a boat, no one would bat an eye.

- 57 Sauce
-
What is Heinz 57 Sauce like? Nothing. It’s a totally unique beast of a sauce. It’s sweet. It’s tangy. It’s pungent. It almost tastes like pickled beets. It’s a very interesting flavor. If you love it, you really will love it. If you don’t like it, you’ll never try it again. Hats off to Heinz for creating a condiment all its own.

- Sweet Relish
-
Heinz makes a really good sweet relish (one of the best pickle relishes, per our own ranking). The little pickle bits are really crunchy (impressive!) and they’re not too sweet. It’s not a gloopy relish—it’s actually a bit loose. But I think that works in its favor. My only note is a word of warning: The hole on this squeeze bottle is big, so the relish comes out fast. Squeeze with caution.

- Yellow Mustard
-
Don’t get the spicy brown mustard, get Heinz Yellow Mustard instead. It received top scores in our best yellow mustard taste test, and it’s about as classic as you can get. It’s bright and tangy and zippy. It will absolutely slay on a fatty sausage. All of those people I told to get into mustard instead of diet-friendly ketchup should start with this yellow mustard.

- Limited Edition Black Garlic Flavored Ranch
-
If you can find a bottle of this new, limited edition Heinz sauce, buy it. It’s not the end all, be all of Heinz flavors. But it’s not something you see every day. And if you like that rich, funky-sweet earthiness of black garlic, then you’ll appreciate it. It really does taste like actual black garlic, but it’s not too pungent. The ranch acts as a tangy base, and gives it the perfect texture for either spreading onto a sandwich or using as a dip for veggies. This Heinz sauce divided the Sporked staff a bit, but I stand by it. Snag a bottle from eBay if you need to.

- Cocktail Sauce
-
I love that Heinz didn’t hold back when they made this cocktail sauce. This isn’t some watered down version of the classic raw bar condiment. It has full-on chunks of horseradish in the mix. Yum. Plus, it has the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and tart flavors. This would absolutely slap on some cold poached shrimp or big Gulf Coast oysters.

- Tomato Ketchup with a Blend of Veggies
-
Now we’re really going to start getting into the Heinz ketchup flavors. I was skeptical of this one, which is sneakily made with carrots and butternut squash. But, as a mother of a picky eater, I appreciate what they’ve done. While you can sorta taste some sweet, vegetal carrot in the mix if you really focus, the vegetables are pretty darn hidden. Plus, it has less sugar than the standard Heinz ketchup (3g per serving vs 4g per serving). If you’re desperate to get some form of vegetable into a child (or yourself!) this is the best Heinz ketchup you can get.

- Tomato Ketchup Simply
-
What makes this Heinz ketchup different from any of the other Heinz ketchup flavors? It’s made without any artificial sweeteners (aka high-fructose corn syrup). But, unless you were tasting it head-to-head with the classic Heinz ketchup, I bet you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. If you do taste them head-to-head, then Simply lacks some punch. But we’re really just quibbling at this point.

- Mayoracha
-
We love Mayorach (mayo plus sriracha) in the Sporked offices. In fact, we always keep a bottle in our staff fridge—just in case. It is an instant classic. You get the heat and peppery flavor of sriracha and the creaminess of mayo. There’s not much you can’t use it on. We’ve tried it all.

- Kranch
-
What’s Kranch? It’s ketchup plus ranch—and it rules. It sorta tastes like Thousand Island dressing, without any of the pickle quality. It has the herbaceousness of ranch and the sweetness of ketchup. I’d dip fries into this forever. And, once the world was out of fries, I’d dip whatever else I had on had—vegetables, cardboard, my fingers, your fingers. It’s all going in the Kranch.

- Tomato Ketchup
-
Look, Heinz Tomato Ketchup is pretty much the perfect condiment. You might think it’s basic and boring. But if you really sit down and focus on the flavors—if you mindfully enjoy your ketchup—you’ll realize how nuanced and sophisticated it is. It’s tangy and sweet and umami as hell. It’s a perfect dip, a perfect condiment, and it’s often the secret ingredient your recipe for chili or sauce or soup is missing.

- Pickle Ketchup
-
Yes, Heinz somehow improved upon the perfect condiment by adding pickle. Heinz Pickle Ketchup tastes like a McDonald’s hamburger with extra pickles. You get the tart tang of pickles and the sweetness of ketchup. It’s simply delicious. Even if you don’t like pickles, I’m pretty sure you’ll like this Heinz sauce. The addition of pickle seems to amp up all the flavors of the ketchup. It’s a more ketchuppy ketchup, somehow. Out of all the Heinz sauces out there, I beg you to try this one.
