Earlier this year, I visited the Senator John Heinz History Center in downtown Pittsburgh, where I saw dozens of Heinz artifacts dating back to the earliest days of the Heinz company. The Heinz Hitch delivery wagon was cool, but I’ll never recover from seeing a Heinz ketchup bottle wrapped to look like Ed Sheeran’s tattooed arm.
One of the recurring themes through that exhibit was that Heinz doesn’t just do ketchup, which feels especially relevant today. Earlier this month at the CAGNY Conference, The Kraft Heinz Company teased an upcoming trio of internationally-inspired condiments that we’ve got to talk about.
What is the CAGNY Conference?
CAGNY, short for Consumer Analyst Group of New York, runs an annual conference bringing together as many goods-producing corporations as they can. Most of the conference is focused on finances, but many of the companies use the conference to reveal a few upcoming product innovations to keep people awake. (We’ve got quite a few news articles coming soon thanks to CAGNY presentations.)
What are the three new Heinz sauces?
Before we get started, it’s worth noting that the only information we have about the Heinz Flavor Tour sauces is what we can glean from the bottle designs themselves and a single promotional photo. Heinz has yet to publicly comment on the release date or any finer details on the flavor notes we should expect.
First off, we’ve got Korean Inspired Sweet & Tangy BBQ. Korean Barbecue isn’t unfamiliar territory for Heinz. You can get a bottle of Heinz Korean Style Sticky BBQ Sauce right now—in the United Kingdom. The image revealed in the CAGNY presentation has a piece of honeycomb dripping with honey next to the bottle, so I think they’re serious about the sweetness.
The second Flavor Tour sauce is Mexican Inspired Sweet Corn, pictured next to a slice of lime. I’m looking forward to finding out whether they’re referring to the crema, mayo, and spices found on street corn, or the entire flavor of street corn including the corn itself. The yellow color of the sauce plus the adjacent lime in the promotional image has me leaning towards the latter idea.
Finally, we have Thai Inspired Sweet Chili. This is a spicy Heinz sauce that appears to have hit Europe first as Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce; I’m glad Heinz is sharing the love with us here in the States. The promotional image showcases a clove of garlic next to the bottle, so I already know I’m going to like this one.
When will these new Heinz sauces hit shelves?
Unfortunately, we don’t know yet. While that information may have been shared as part of the CAGNY presentation, we only have the slides from the presentation to work off of. That said, since product listings for these sauces are already popping up on sites like Instacart, I think we should see them sooner rather than later.
Is Heinz launching any other new sauces in 2025?
If you’re mad about mayo, you’re going to love what’s coming next. Keep your eyes out for a piece from my CAGNY co-researcher Tyler Bowers on another group of new Heinz sauces we’re expecting this year.
