Are you excited for the new season of Stranger Things? Did you even know that there was a new season of Stranger Things? Well, get ready, because the fifth and final season premieres November 26th—and thanks to a Netflix-Doritos collab, you can watch Vecna’s latest attempt at world domination (he’s still alive, right? It’s been so long, I genuinely can’t remember…) with a brand new Doritos flavor. Are these new Stranger Things Pizza & Cool Ranch Doritos worth putting in a bowl next to your popcorn bucket? I tried ‘em to find out.

I know it feels crazy that this show is still going, but trust me, stranger things have happened in the world of television recently. I don’t know if you saw the season premiere of 9-1-1 last night (10/19), but Ryan Murphy just sent firefighters into space. And a kayaking tech millionaire played by Mark Consuelos was swallowed whole by a CGI whale. (And they still won’t have Buck and Eddie kiss?! C’mon, guys…) One more season of a show about children who are now fully-fledged tax-paying adults is well within the landscape of reality.

Anyways, back to this new Doritos flavor. It’s the latest addition to Doritos “Collisions” line, which combines two Doritos flavors in the same big bag: Cool Ranch and Stranger Pizza, in this case. I’m definitely seeing the vision. Pizza, dipped in ranch? Like the show, this could be an instant classic.

New Doritos Flavor!

Stranger Things Doritos Collisions: Stranger Pizza & Cool Ranch

Pros: When you stack a Cool Ranch Dorito over the Stranger Things Pizza Doritos, the effect is pretty fun. The zest of Cool Ranch complements the sweet tomato sauce flavor in the pizza chips, which almost have a sweet BBQ thing going for them. It’s a unique take on a nostalgic flavor. But how does this flavor combo relate to Stranger Things? Off the bat, I couldn’t tell you, because it’s been three years since I’ve seen the show, so most references are lost on me.

Cons: Okay, I Googled it, and apparently it only ties into the show because pizza snacks were popular in the ‘80s. Lame. In fact, I think it’s time we all accept that pizza-flavored snacks really aren’t that yummy (with notable exceptions). I’m sorry, but it’s mostly just tomato powder and old cheese. Still, I think they did a pretty decent rendition of the pizza flavor by giving it sweet tang.

Verdict: They’ve not bad, but I’m not going to buy them. And to be honest, you probably won’t, either. Stranger Things is trying to stay relevant in a world that has already moved on… and the same can be said for the pizza flavor. Maybe that’s how they’re connected after all?
