Last year, Progresso released their first-ever Soup Drops – cough drops with the flavor of their classic chicken noodle soup. I think we can all follow that logic: cough drops and chicken noodle soup are both on the menu for cold-weather sick days. Weird, sure, but not completely unexpected. I wasn’t able to secure a can for review (or to satiate my personal curiosity), so I thought that’d be the last I ever thought of Progresso Soup Drops…
Ah, phooey, they’re back. Progresso has revived the Soup Drops concept with two additional flavors and a hot new ingredient that promises to emulate that soupy mouthfeel better than ever before. I think I speak for everyone when I say that science has gone too far. Grab a can opener and let’s find out if Soup Drops will help make us feel better.
What are the three flavors of Soup Drops?
The new Soup Drop Variety Can contains drops based on three classic Progresso soups: Chicken Noodle, Tomato Basil, and Beef Pot Roast. This way, you can better tailor your soup-sucking experience depending on the day. Terrifying note: While the Chicken Noodle and Tomato Basil Soup Drops are both vegetarian-friendly, the Beef Pot Roast contains real beef broth.
Speaking of ingredients, Progresso didn’t reveal exactly what makes these new Soup Drops warm your mouth, but it’s basically… the opposite of menthol? Having tried one already, I can confirm there’s a specific warming effect that isn’t so much spicy as it is soothing.
Where can I get Progresso Soup Drops?
Two more batches of Progresso Soup Drops will be available online on January 22nd and 29th, starting at 9 a.m. EST, while supplies last. As a bonus, your order will even come with an actual can of Progresso’s Chicken Noodle Soup so you can compare and contrast the OG with the cough drop equivalent. Progresso was “nice” enough to send over this year’s edition of Soup Drops. If you think I should subject myself to three soup-flavored cough drops for a Sporked review, let me know in the comments. Full disclosure, you’ll have to be very convincing.
