Best Vegetable Beef Soup

Progresso Beef & Vegetable

Progresso makes one mean vegetable beef soup. Sporked contributor Danny Palumbo “really enjoys Progresso Beef & Vegetable soup for what it is.” He found a great “diversity of vegetables” (carrots, potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, onion), and loved the beefy flavor. And unlike most canned soups, this one isn’t packed with sodium. Danny described this as a soup that is “subtle and shows restraint.” Sounds like a pretty mature soup to me!

Best Mushroom

Amy’s Gluten-Free Mushroom Bisque Soup

Canned mushroom soup is super underrated. It’s typically used for green bean casserole and, uh, that’s it? This Amy’s soup, however, is the kind of soup you want to enjoy as soup. Danny found it to be “absolutely stacked with mushrooms,” especially compared to the other mushroom soups we tried. He even described it as tasting “like homemade soup.” An added bonus is that the ingredients are organic if you care about that sort of thing. “Amy’s cream of mushroom is creamy, buttery, herby, and deeply flavorful with umami-rich mushrooms. That’s why it’s the best cream of mushroom soup,” Danny wrote.

Best Lentil

Bare Bones Lentil Curry Plant-Based Soup

I love lentil soup and I loved Bare Bones Lentil Curry Plant-Based Soup. Bare Bones’ lentil soup is warm and inviting and easily our favorite lentil soup. It’s filled with lentils, vegetables, and spicy aromatics. Danny thought it was “very hearty” and said that “the lentils are creamy and firm like a good legume should be.” You get an unexpected punch of flavor from the lemongrass that brightens up the entire soup. Danny called this “an expertly spiced and seasoned” soup. Who wouldn’t want to try expert soup?!

Best Chicken Noodle

Rao’s Chicken Noodle Soup

You know and love Rao’s marinara sauce, but did you know they also make chicken noodle soup? Danny thought this tasted “like homemade chicken noodle soup sold in a jar,” and that’s why it’s our favorite chicken noodle soup. The noodles hold up well to the broth and “the herbaceousness is on par with what you’d expect from a homemade soup.” It’s well seasoned and the broth is truly the star, which should be the case with any chicken noodle soup. “Rao’s nails the seasoning and flavor, and the quality ingredients are all top-notch,” Danny wrote. We’re sold!

bar harbor clam chowder

Best Clam Chowder

Bar Harbor New England Style Clam Chowder

Bar Harbor New England Style Clam is our favorite clam chowder. This stuff is better than some of the clam chowders I’ve tried at restaurants. Danny called Bar Harbor’s clam chowder “damn good stuff.” It has an oceanic salinity without coming off as fishy. It’s loaded with cream, tiny cubed potatoes, and tender, meaty clams. And unlike most of the canned clam chowders we tried, this is nice and thick. I never thought I’d really stan a canned clam chowder, but here we are.

Best Vegetable Soup

Amy’s Organic Southwestern Fire-Roasted Vegetable Soup

“Imagine the best vegetable soup you ever tasted had a baby with a perfectly spiced tortilla soup—that’s Amy’s Southwest Vegetable Soup in a nutshell.” I’m right! This vegetable soup is flavorful enough to enjoy on its own but would be even better topped with shredded cheddar, diced raw onion, and a squeeze of fresh lime. Add tortilla chips for dunking and you have a scrumptious dinner. This was easily the most flavorful vegetable soup we tried in our vegetable soup taste test.

Best Tomato Soup

Pacific Foods Organic Creamy Tomato Soup

Justine Sterling, Sporked editor-in-chief, knows soup, and Justine loves Pacific Foods Organic Creamy Tomato Soup. It’s our favorite tomato soup we’ve ever tried from the grocery store. It might even be the best soup we’ve ever gotten at the grocery store. It’s about “as decadent as plain tomato soup can get” thanks to the organic milk from dairies local to Oregon (according to Pacific Foods). The tomatoes are sweet. The onions and garlic are aromatic. Trust Justine when she says “buy this soup!”

  • Campbell’s Tomato Bisque beats Pacific’s by far! And Kluski chicken noodles soup is my quick go to winter dinner when we both have places to be and will be eating at diffrent times. That I doctor up with onion, celery, carrots, peas and left over Rotisserie chicken (walmarts best tasting) I keep vegetables frozen and sometimes even the chicken but it’s much healthier than only following box directions or canned!
