It’s only been a week since the news of Haagen-Dazs new product release dropped, but we’ve already secured and tasted all of these new ice cream treats. First up, let’s talk about the new Cherry Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Bars.

I am a big Haagen-Dazs ice cream bar fan. I have a very specific way that I like to eat them—bite the chocolate coating off in shards, starting with the sides, and then slowly eat the creamy block of ice cream. For the purposes of this taste test, though, I consumed the bar like a normal human being, eating both chocolate and ice cream at the same time in order to best evaluate the holistic experience. Is this new Haagen-Dazs ice cream treat an instant classic? Or is it just the brand hopping on the Year of the Cherry bandwagon? (Everything is cherry this year, if you hadn’t noticed.) Let’s get into the review.

New Haagen-Dazs!

Haagen-Dazs Cherry Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Bars

Pros: I’ll cut right to the chase, this rocks. It’s right up there with Haagen-Dazs’ Chocolate Dark Chocolate bars as one of the best ice cream bars available. The dark chocolate coating is perfect. It’s just thick enough, just creamy enough, and just bitter enough to complement the sweet cherry ice cream. And that cherry ice cream is also fantastic. It’s not medicinal at all. It has a rich, dark red cherry flavor with swirls of tangy cherry “ribbons.” It’s understated but luxurious—an instant classic, IMO.

Cons: As good as it is, I do think there’s some room for improvement. The cherry “ribbons” could be punchier and more noticeable. And if you’re hoping for any textural variety, you’re out of luck. There are no bits of cherry or chocolate in the ice cream itself.

Verdict: You gotta try this new ice cream bar. Writing this review has me craving one desperately—and it’s 10:30 a.m. It’s simple but a really high quality product. And it’s good. Darn good.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
