Last year was a huge year for Reese’s and their many flavors of peanut butter– and chocolate- filled cups. They really wouldn’t quit—we got not one but two peanut butter and jelly flavors, a collaboration with Oreo, Reese’s Cups that taste like red velvet cake (kinda), and more. You could say our Reese’s Cup already runneth over—and there’s even more coming in 2026.

According to food and candy news duo Mnmtwinz, Reese’s parent company Hershey’s has decided to dig out a flavor from yesteryear: Reese’s Marshmallow Cups. No, we’re not talking about the marshmallow-topped cups that have become a recurring Easter treat since 2021—these are peanut butter cups with a real-deal layer of gooey marshmallow cream tucked beneath the layer of peanut butter.

When was the last time we could sink our teeth into these marshmallow Reese’s Cups?

Forget 2016—Reese’s is throwing it all the way back to 2006 with this one. Candyblog.net reviewed these when they were released for a limited time, alongside a limited edition Marshmallow Take 5 bar, 20 years ago. The verdict? According to their candy critic, the slick layer of marshmallow overwhelmed the Reese’s peanut butter we all know and love, but the off-putting experience of eating them was alleviated by flipping them upside down. Clever!

Okay, but why marshmallow and peanut butter?

For the uninitiated, the Reese’s Marshmallow Cups seem to be paying homage to the Fluffernutter sandwich, which contains both peanut butter and spreadable marshmallow cream between two slices of bread (typically white bread). The concept of a peanut butter-marshmallow cream sandwich is said to have originated in the early 20th century in New England. (At one point, there was even a proposal to make it the official state sandwich of Massachusetts—didn’t happen, but many still consider it to be the unofficial state sandwich.) In 1960, an advertising agency created the term “Fluffernutter” to help better market the sandwiches and the phrase is trademarked by the brand that makes Marshmallow Fluff, which is likely why Hershey’s opted to NOT call these Reese’s Fluffernutter Cups. A shame, because that’s a fantastic name.

Where can I find these new Reese’s Cups?

Reports are pouring in on Instagram that the new Reese’s have already been spotted at Walmart, but as the Mnmtwinz noted, there’s yet to be an official announcement from Hershey’s, so you may not be likely to find them in stores just yet. Our sources believe that the Marshmallow Reese’s Cups should be showing up in stores closer to Easter—but it certainly doesn’t hurt to continue to hunt for them in the meantime!
