Last August, I covered the new Reese’s flavor launching for Valentine’s Day 2025—their first Valentine’s flavor ever! Well, time flies when you’re eating candy for work. There’s no big holiday between New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day, so these new Red Velvet Reese’s Cups are already hitting shelves! I ordered the regular cups online and found the Miniatures in-store, so there’s only one thing left to do: figure out whether these are worth bringing home to your boo.
The experience of eating regular-sized Red Velvet Reese’s Cups is nigh-indistinguishable from the Red Velvet Miniatures, so follow your heart when deciding which one you’d like to pick up for yourself. I am glad Reese’s is consistently launching their seasonal flavors in multiple formats. (Speaking of seasonal Reese’s flavors, look out for my review of Spring Sprinkles Reese’s Cups later this month!) Now, let’s get to reviewing these new Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Pros: I don’t think it’ll shock anyone to hear this new Reese’s flavor is good. The “top half flavored creme, bottom half milk chocolate” strategy can be hit or miss (as was the case with the Werewolf Tracks), but this works. It’s a fact of life: It’s really hard to mess up a Reese’s Cup.
Cons: Per Sporked’s own article, “What Flavor Is Red Velvet, Actually?” by Matt Crowley, red velvet is “a mixture of vanilla and a dash of cocoa, plus more vinegary tartness than you might find in a typical cake.” I’ve eaten plenty of red velvet cake and flavored goods, and this certainly tastes…close enough. But ultimately, the red velvet flavor isn’t different enough from milk chocolate to be super interesting. You know what would have been killer? A Red Velvet Reese’s Cup with a red velvet lower half and a cream cheese frosting flavored upper half. I’m not sure how the peanut butter would work in all that, but I’d love to find out. How can you have red velvet anything without cream cheese frosting? It’s a real missed opportunity.
