You never know what you’re going to find when you walk through Aldi’s automatic sliding glass doors. Lots of bargains, sure, but each and every week, the discount grocery store is also stocking lots of brand-spanking-new products and weird seasonal items you have to pounce on before they disappear. At the moment, they’re gearing up for St. Paddy’s Day with a fun snack mix, specialty cheeses, and Irish-inspired bread mixes.

Aldi Soda Bread Mix and Beer Bread Mix (2/28, $2.49)

I’m sure making soda bread from scratch is very satisfying in its way—but so is finding a quick and easy shortcut to hot, tangy loaves. Aldi has two varieties for spring: soda bread and beer bread. Just add soda water and butter to the former and beer and butter to the later for “buttery bread in less than an hour,” the box says.

Southern Grove Leprechaun’s Delight Trail Mix (2/28, $4.89)

What makes a regular ol’ trail mix a Leprechaun’s Delight trail mix? Little colorful, crunchy little marshmallows, obviously. This mix also has: yogurt-flavored coated raisins, honey roasted cashews, vanilla glazed almonds, and mini shortbread cookies. No gold, sorry.

Emporium Selection Irish Porter Cheddar and Sage Derby (2/28, $3.99)

Most of our favorite Aldi cheeses are pretty standard issue, but who can resist seasonal options? For St. Paddy’s Day, they’ve got a Sage Derby, a mild cheese imported from England, as well as a cheddar infused with the flavor of porter. Yum.

Other stuff to keep an eye out for this month …

Summit Popz Prebiotic Soda

Aldi has a Poppi dupe now! We recently tried their new Bloom Energy dupe, Vivee, and it’s pretty impressive, so there’s a good chance this prebiotic soda will be pretty good, too. Currently, the lineup of flavors includes: Strawberry Lemon, Raspberry Rose, Cherry Lime, and Lemon Lime.

Benner Half & Half or Sweet Iced Tea

Yeah, it’s the middle of winter, but an Arnold Palmer in February is a welcome taste of summer.

Specially Selected Flatbreads

We’re big fans of what Mama Cozzi is doing with frozen pizzas at Aldi, but their upscale Specially Selected label has some bangers, too. Keep your eyes peeled for the Roasted Vegetable Wood Fired Provola and the Garlic Provola (topped with a cheesy garlic sauce and more cheese—yum).

Priano Stuffed Shells and Manicotti

Nothing warms you up on a cold night quite like pasta stuffed with lots of herby cheese. Pick out a good pasta sauce (we especially love Specially Selected Premium Marinara) and that’s dinner.

About the Author

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
