There are plenty of ways to survive a hot summer day. A cold shower. Air conditioning. Refusing to go outside until September. And now, fruit-shaped ice cream from Costco. Because somewhere along the way, regular ice cream stopped being enough.

Costco is currently selling Frosty Peach and Mango Fruit Shaped Ice Cream: frozen treats molded to look like actual peaches and mangoes, with peach and mango-flavored ice cream inside. They’re cute. They’re summery. And they’re exactly the sort of thing I’d throw into my cart while convincing myself I was making a sensible grocery decision.

The Part That Makes This Interesting

Fruit-shaped ice cream isn’t a new concept. It’s been a staple of Asian grocery stores and specialty retailers for years―the kind of thing that feels more like a dessert experience than a standard ice cream bar. What’s notable is that it’s now at Costco.

Not in a specialty freezer aisle. Not in a boutique dessert shop. Costco―the same place you buy paper towels, rotisserie chickens, and enough snacks to survive a minor economic downturn. The fact that fruit-shaped novelty ice cream has made it to Costco shelves says something about how mainstream the format has become. Either that, or somebody in Costco’s buying department has been spending a lot of time on food TikTok. Possibly both.

Why It Works for Summer

The appeal here is pretty straightforward. It’s hot. Ice cream helps. And ice cream that looks like a peach is objectively more fun than ice cream that looks like a rectangle. The peach and mango flavors don’t hurt either. Those are about as summery as fruits get. There’s also something satisfying about a frozen dessert that commits fully to the bit. If you’re going to make fruit-flavored ice cream, you may as well make it look like fruit too.

At Costco prices, with six bars per box, it’s also a fairly easy impulse buy. Or at least as much of an impulse buy as anything can be when you’ve already committed to pushing a shopping cart the size of a small vehicle around a warehouse.

Where To Find It

Frosty Peach and Mango Fruit Shaped Ice Cream is available now at Costco stores and through Costco Same-Day delivery, though availability may vary by location. If you’ve been looking for a new summer freezer find, this might be one of the more fun options currently hiding between the bulk frozen vegetables and industrial quantities of chicken nuggets. Once Costco gets involved, you’ve officially left niche territory behind.
