Did you know that Old El Paso makes soup? Amidst its taco seasoning mixes and kits, refried beans, Mexican rice, Mexican pizza kits, enchilada sauces, and everything in between, you might have forgotten that fact (it also makes ramen, and it might surprise you to hear that it’s actually pretty good – well, one of the flavors, anyway). But we didn’t forget. We’ve known that Old El Paso makes soup for a long time. And we’ve tried them, too. And…we’ve gotta say, we didn’t love them.

That didn’t stop the prolific brand from making more, though. It’s now got two new soups coming to shelves near you. Here’s the lowdown.
New Old El Paso Soup Flavors
Although Old El Paso didn’t put out a big old press release for the arrival of its new soups, we caught wind of them anyway. This is thanks to @candyhunting, who spotted the new flavors at Meijer, and duly posted about it – and we, in turn, duly rolled up our sleeves and started typing.
Anyway, to the soups! Two flavors are joining the Old El Paso party: Cheesy Beef Taco-Style Soup and Chipotle Steak Burrito-Style Soup. So, hearty stuff here! The former feels somewhat close to the Chicken Cheese Enchilada-Style Soup it already sells, which we tried back in 2024. We gave it a 5.5 out of 10 back then, just FYI. So, yeah. We guess we’ll see how this one fares!
Are People…Excited?
It’s hard to make the claim that they are, guys. While the comments on @candyhunting’s post are fairly scant, the ones that are there aren’t exactly singing the praises of these new flavors and their culinary possibilities. “Oh no I’m not falling for this again,” said one comment, before saying that Old El Paso’s previous soups weren’t any good. “I couldn’t even add enough extra meat/cheese/chips to make it edible. Way too watery and bland, while somehow containing enough salt to mummify a corn field.” A very vivid description there, we salute you.
Another person did say, though, that they felt that the Taco-Style soup might mix well with Velveeta. So, it’s not all doom and gloom. Our eyes will, of course, be trained on reviews as they start arriving.
