Aldi Customers Are Begging For The Return Of One Item

Aldi. Why do you do it to us? Why do you introduce delicious, affordable items and then take them away at the drop of a hat, without any prior warning whatsoever? To be fair to the German retailer, it’s not the only one that does this: Trader Joe’s, for instance, is particularly prone to discontinue fan-favorite items, and basically every other supermarket out there is constantly rejigging what it’s stocking. But when it strikes at Aldi, somehow it feels different.

This week, Aldi customers have been feeling the sting of discontinuation pretty keenly over on Reddit, discussing a now-gone item that virtually everyone misses. Let’s discuss.

Kirkwood Spicy Chicken Patties, We Hardly Knew Ye

The item in question discussed on Reddit is Aldi’s Kirkwood Spicy Chicken Patties, which were actually discontinued a few months ago – but boy, did they make a mark. These little breaded discs were way spicier than you might expect for a mainstream supermarket chicken patty – and customers loved them all the more for that fact. They were bold, confronting, tasty – and, most importantly, not too expensive. 

And then, one day in Spring, they were gone, but not forgotten, considering that a full season later, people are still lamenting the fact that they’ve disappeared. “I miss these so much,” said the person who posted the thread, prompting dozens of others to respond, mainly in agreement. Although a few people chimed in saying that they were just too spicy, the main takeaway is one of grief. Loss. Lamentation. 

Hope On The Horizon?

With all this said, there’s a chance – a chance! – that the Kirkwood Spicy Chicken Patties might be coming back. “They are seasonal! I asked one of the employees at my local Aldi,” said one person in the Reddit thread, offering a glimmer of hope to those who haven’t been able to find an adequate alternative. Now, obviously, this is a comment on a message board, and there’s no confirmation from Aldi itself that this is the case – but given the noise around this product, hopefully it’d consider their return…

For now, though, if you’re missing Aldi’s spicy patties in your chicken sandwiches, you may have to make do elsewhere. One person in the thread offered up Banquet’s MEGA Filets Spicy Crispy Chicken Filets, sold at Walmart, as an option. If you’re willing to make the trip, they might just tide you over until that apparent seasonal comeback.
