Dairy-free yogurt has come a long way in recent years, but a lot of it still has, in the eyes of some customers, a problem: There’s not a lot of protein in some of ‘em. It can be the same situation with plant-based milk alternatives, too. Dairy-free yogurt manufacturers can emulate its creaminess while offering you a fun little twist on its flavor profile (or, in some cases, be completely indistinguishable from the dairy version), but the protein can still be lacking – and in a world utterly obsessed with the nutrient, that can be a problem.
Well, not anymore. One prominent plant-based yogurt manufacturer is expanding its protein line, giving people even more options. Here’s the lowdown.

Silk Protein Yogurt and Shakes
A couple of days ago, plant-based beverage brand Silk announced that it would be building on the success of its high-protein milk alternative, Silk Protein, with two new plant-based high-protein products. Introducing Silk Protein Yogurt and Silk Protein Shakes, coming in a variety of flavors and with a pretty impressive amount of protein per portion.
First, let’s talk about the yogurt. Silk Protein Yogurt is, the brand says in its press release, “the only plant-based yogurt providing an excellent source of complete plant protein” (it points out that market alternatives like Kite Hill’s yogurt are made with a combination of plant-based milk and protein isolate). Available in Vanilla, Strawberry, Peach, and Mixed Berry flavors, each yogurt has at least 12 grams of complete plant protein, four grams of fiber, and five essential nutrients. These yogurts also have no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners.
Silk Protein Shakes, meanwhile, will come in two flavors: Vanilla and Chocolate. I was reeeeeally hoping to see a strawberry flavor here, too, but alas. It was not to be. Regardless, these flavors will contain 30 grams of protein apiece, five grams of fiber, two grams of total sugar, and, once again, no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners. The intention here with both of these products is quite clearly to rival the regular protein content in dairy-based yogurts and shakes, and Silk has succeeded on that front.
