Is Costco’s New Croissant Better Than Its Churro Sundae?

Costco’s food court has some hits – and it has some misses. Serious misses. And its churro sundae was, we’re sad to say, one of them. When Costco dropped the churro sundae a couple of months ago, fans were seriously divided: The absence of actual churro pieces (it had freeze-dried churro bites instead) was a big negative for its customers, and it…just didn’t taste like the thing it was trying to capture. Ie., churros. No actual churro-ness to be found. A cruel sting, considering that the food court no longer sells actual churros, and that people are still mourning their loss.

Luckily, Costco has offered somewhat of a corrective in the form of its new croissants. Let’s dive in.

Costco’s Churro Croissants

Yesterday on Instagram, @costcohotfinds brought us the news that Costco is now selling a churro-esque croissant in its bakery section. What we mean by this is that it’s a croissant coated with a cinnamon sugar streusel, giving it a crispy, sweet, churro-like crunch on the outside – and there’s also cinnamon cream piped inside, for your further delectation.

The whole thing feels very churro – and most importantly, it feels like Costco hasn’t cut corners here. These croissants are big and generous, and the cinnamon sugar streusel on the outside comes in a nice, thick layer. No freeze-dried vibes here, thank god.

But…How Do They Taste?

Well, we are very pleased to report that, so far, these churro croissants have been received well by customers. “They had these at our warehouse and they are HEAVENLY,” said one person in the comment section of @costcohotfinds’ post, with another person calling them “fantastic” and yet another saying they were a “10/10.” A lot of people are also recognising, quite rightly, that these are a sugar bomb – you’ve been warned. These aren’t an everyday breakfast.

With all that said, there have been a few criticisms of these croissants so far. One person said they wished there were more filling inside them (which is fair: it does look a bit like a flat smear, but honestly, we’ll take that over no filling). Someone else said, in a comment that was perhaps inevitable, that they wished Costco would just bring back the food court churros. Hey, that’s not unreasonable. There’s an argument to be made that it’s beating around the bush here with all these churro-like options. Until it does that, though, these are $9.99 for a pack of six croissants, and they’re rolling out now.
