To paraphrase (and maybe contradict) a Taylor Swift song, August isn’t quite slipping away like a bottle of wine just yet – but you can bet that it’ll feel like it’s gone quickly once it’s over. We’re now in the final throes of summer, and food manufacturers and retailers are going full throttle with their fall drops. We probably don’t need to tell you that, though: You only have to walk through the aisles at Sam’s Club, Aldi, or any other store to see that pumpkin spice and apple cider are back in business.

It’s the same deal at Target, too, and things are about to get even more autumnal with its new sweet items. Let’s take a look.

Favorite Day Fall Drops: No Pumpkin Spice In Sight (Yet)

Thanks to good old @markie_devo on Instagram, we’ve caught ourselves a sneak peek at Target’s new fall-themed Favorite Day items, which are making their way to stores across the country. We have two new ice creams and one new cookie dough – and they are…

  • Favorite Day Apple Cider Ice Cream: An apple-flavored ice cream studded with spiced apple pieces.
  • Favorite Day Caramel Commotion Ice Cream: Salty caramel ice cream, with caramel-filled cups threaded throughout, along with a caramel swirl.
  • Favorite Day Apple Oat Crumble Ice Cream: An oat-inflected cookie dough (with, we presume, apple notes running through them).

Now, something stands out very quickly about these three new drops: There’s not a whisper of pumpkin spice to be seen. Are we finally…moving beyond it? Probably not, if we’re being honest. By the looks of what’s being released elsewhere, pumpkin spice season is back in full swing, and Target itself has a bunch of pumpkin spice products in its Good & Gather range, including coffee, coffee syrup, and the raw spice mix itself.

But – but! – it’s nice to see the store start to gently push into other flavor zones, and it’s not the only one to do so. Betty Crocker’s dropping an apple cider cake mix this year, and while this isn’t really enough to call apple cider a trend (and it’s been around forever), we appreciate the flavor diversity.

So, When Can I Get Them?

Soon, young grasshopper, soon. These new goodies haven’t appeared on Target’s website just yet, but it’ll be a matter of days or weeks, we’d imagine. It’s not going to miss out on pre-empting those cozy vibes, after all.
