These New Gushers And Fruit Roll-Ups Are Appropriately Spooky

Sound the Halloween klaxon! Throw on your big white sheet with cut-out eyes, quick! Spooky season is on its way, and by the speed at which supermarket shelves are filling up, we all know about it by now. This week, Halloween Oreos and “Summerween” Toll House cookie doughs have started to make their way to stores, and Mars has released the news that people are increasingly interested in Halloween candy year-round. Its approach is unstoppable.

Well, General Mills wasn’t going to be left out. The food mega-producer is dropping six new Halloween- and fall-themed options in its Betty Crocker, Fruit Roll-Ups, Fruit By The Foot, and Gushers lines, and we’re here to talk about them. And if you’re a midnight snacker, you’re in for a treat. 

Ooh…Glowy 

Yesterday, @markie_devo delivered word that General Mills is gearing up to drop a half-dozen new items in the coming weeks, and three of them come in glow-in-the-dark packaging – y’know, for all of your spooky, vaguely radioactive-esque needs this coming October. 

Let’s talk about those first: Coming to grocery stores soon will be Fruit Roll-Ups Mini Rolls in Screamin’ Strawberry, Bloody Mummy Cherry Orange Fruit By The Foot, and Tropical Nightmare Gushers. We saw these flavors last year, but their newness comes from the fact that all three will now have glow-in-the-dark jokes on every pouch (which apparently need charging up: Each box has the instruction “hold under light to charge” on it. Solar power vibes!). 

And What About Betty Crocker?

Well, this is where the newness – newness as in new flavors – comes in. Betty Crocker fans will get three new options to choose from for this fall, which are way more “wearing a cozy cardigan, holding a pumpkin spice latte in both hands” and way less “oh, god, you scared me!” Soon, you’ll be able to get Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Bar Mix, Super Moist Apple Cider Delights Cake Mix, and Super Moist Maple Delights Cake Mix. All three are limited-edition, so move with haste, should you want to sample these autumnal flavors.

So, yes, another year of pumpkin spice ruling the roost. It’s going nowhere. But apple cider and maple…we spy a bit of healthy variation going on! There’s no definitive timeline about when these will be available, but I’d expect them to start showing up in the first few weeks of August (especially since pumpkin spice season has already begun). The march of cozy, spooky vibes waits for no one.
