The best vegan mayo tastes like regular mayo. And mayo is a god-tier condiment. It’s the perfect sandwich spread and the beating heart of many delicious salads. You can use it to make all kinds of sauces and dressings. Some people even use it in desserts (I’m looking at you, chocolate mayo cake). In my personal opinion, mayonnaise can do no wrong. Vegan mayonnaise, on the other hand, can go very, very wrong.
Luckily for us, some vegan mayo brands can go very right! We tasted as much plant-based mayo as we could get our hands on to find the best vegan mayonnaise on the plant-based market. We were looking for something that is creamy and tangy and has a savory quality with just a hint of sweetness. The vegan mayos below simply rocked our world and made us wonder if we would ever buy non-vegan mayo again. (And if you’re wondering what vegan mayo is made of, just click that link to find out.)
- Best Foods Vegan Dressing and Spread
-
Best Foods mayo has a loyal following, and now vegans can join the party! This plant-based mayo is a little zippy, and that makes me want to slather it all over lightly toasted white bread, add a hearty sprinkling of salt and freshly cracked pepper, and place thick slices of ripe summer tomatoes (preferably Creole) on top to make the perfect tomato sandwich. I’m gonna go ahead and declare this the official vegan mayonnaise of summer!

- Simple Truth Plant Based Mayo Spread
-
For a store brand, Kroger’s Simple Truth does a great job when it comes to vegan products. I bought this vegan mayo “spread” numerous times before I even started working at Sporked because unlike many other vegan mayos, it’s super affordable, shelf stable, and easily accessible. Its mild zest and creamy texture make it ideal for a (vegan) meat-y sandwich, so get your Tofurkey ready! The only downside is that they call it “mayo spread,” and something about that makes it less appealing to me than calling it vegan mayonnaise.

- Trader Joe’s Vegan Mayo Spread & Dressing
-
Trader Joe’s vegan mayonnaise was gone for a while, but now it’s back and better than ever! This is the perfect low cost vegan mayo. It has a little twang and a slight peppery taste. Plus, it’s on the lower end of the cost spectrum for plant based mayo brands. The next time you’re at TJ’s, grab a bottle of this stuff and give it a try.

- Follow Your Heart Avocado Oil Vegenaise
-
Follow Your Heart’s Avocado Oil Vegenaise is not quite as good as the brand’s other two plain vegan mayonnaises because it’s slightly less flavorful, but it’s still one of the best plant based mayonnaises. If you’re someone who prefers avocado oil in general, this might be at the top of your list! The difference in taste and texture is extremely subtle. What really matters is that it’s creamy and delicious and perfect for your chickpea vegan tuna salad sandwiches.

- Sir Kensington’s Special Sauce Vegan Mayo
-
Sir Kensington Special Sauce Vegan Mayo is, in fact, a very special sauce. If you like Thousand Island dressing or In-N-Out spread on a burger, this is the best vegan mayonnaise for you. It’s super tangy, a little sweet, and slightly tomato-y. The strong, acidic flavor would amp up an Impossible burger coated with melted cheese and nestled in a rich potato bun. Justine Sterling, Sporked editor-In-chief, envisioned herself dunking crispy fries into this vegan mayo, and I would happily join her.

- Follow Your Heart Soy-Free Vegenaise
-
Follow Your Heart Soy-Free Veganaise is similar to the original, but stands out in its own ways. This soy-less version feels a little thicker than the original and has a slightly different but equally delicious, savory taste. What is that taste? I don’t know! It’s kind of indescribable in the way that mayonnaise is indescribable (and delicious). Gwynedd Stuart, Sporked managing editor, liked this version of the Follow Your Heart best.

- Follow Your Heart Chipotle Vegenaise
-
Does Follow Your Heart dominate this vegan mayo list? Yes. Will I apologize for that? No! Every single one of their vegan mayos absolutely rules, and that goes for their flavored vegan mayonnaises, too. Their Chipotle Vegenaise is absolute perfection. It’s smoky, a little spicy, and super creamy. I want to slather this all over a high-quality bun and then top it with a black bean veggie burger, avocado, and pickled red onions. You could also drizzle this on tacos or add it to a breakfast burrito. It’s super versatile and definitely deserves a spot in your fridge.

- Follow Your Heart Original Vegenaise
-
If you learn anything from this ranking, it should be that Follow Your Heart never misses. Every single product we’ve tried from this vegan brand, from vegan cheeses to vegan mayos, has been sensational. And when it comes to the best Follow Your Heart products, their Original Vegenaise is at the very top of that list. It’s creamy, rich, and has a slight twang. This plant-based mayo is nearly indistinguishable from egg-based mayo. If you follow a plant-based diet or have an egg allergy, add this to your shopping cart now! It’s the best plant-based mayo on the market.

You guys forgot the garlic aioli from follow your heart. Easily the best flavor and texture. Vegan aioli/mayo is one of the few vegan products that have improved on the og imo.
100% agree with the Follow Your Heart Vegenaise! I buy the soy-free version. I don’t buy it because it’s vegan, I buy it because it tastes better than any traditional mayo out there!!
I’ve been wanting to try sir Kensington cause the jar is cute. Unfortunately I’m very swayed by packaging.
Just Mayo was better than any of these and won best taste in pbs test kitchen. Unfortunately lawsuits from the mayo industry and poor safety quality control zapped it from the market
