This year’s Halloween food drops are coming thick and fast. We know, we know! It’s still over three months away. That mindset has never stopped food and drinks brands, though, who are locked in a never-ending race with one another to release their seasonal products as early as possible, it seems. We’ve already seen this year’s Halloween Mountain Dew, Pillsbury’s Halloween cookie dough, and, of course, a bunch of Halloween candy. The wheel continues to turn.

And now, we have an announcement on everyone’s favorite spooky cereal! Hey, you know what? An announcement in July is probably okay, just about. A little restraint. Let’s discuss.

Monster Cereals Are Getting A Glow Up

This year, Monster Cereals are coming back, as they do every spooky season – but things will be looking a bit different. Because they’re getting a redesign, courtesy of a collaboration with The Jim Henson Company. Monster Cereals’ Franken Berry, Boo Berry, and Count Chocula flavors will all have puppet characters on the front of each box. The cereal, as far as we can tell, will be exactly the same, apart from being WAY MORE FUN to eat (we assume that’s what General Mills hopes, at least).

Count Chocula’s getting particular attention this year, too. Alongside the new puppet monster image on the front, there will also be a limited-edition Fuzzy Count Chocula box dropping on October 1. According to @markie_devo, this will be an online Walmart exclusive, and it’ll cost $7.76. These new puppet-adorned cereal boxes, meanwhile, will be available at major retailers that would normally stock Monster Cereals – so Target, Kroger, and Walmart, amongst others – from late July onward. Okay, maybe there’s not THAT much restraint going on.

Boo!

The back of these boxes is getting a little rejig as well. Each cereal will have a Monster Maker on the back: Little cut-out figures that your kids can make, which look like they’ll be little cardboard puppets. As someone who has a young niece, I’m well-versed in the art of doing anything I can to keep little kids occupied for 15 minutes at a time with the latest fun distraction, and I’m sure others will feel the same.

Others are also into these boxes, too. The redesigns (which have been released to celebrate 55 years of Monster Cereals) have gone down a treat with customers, many of whom have praised the new characters and their look. Trust the puppets to bring the joy.
