Retail workers on Reddit called out the uber-early arrival of Halloween candy in a recent thread in which a user posted images of store shelves filled with sweets from Brach’s, Hershey, Reese’s, and York. The boldly-orange boxes and spooky-themed treats stand out―after all, we’re right in the middle of celebrating the Fourth of July with red, white, and blue eats.

If you’re slightly horrified at how early Halloween candy is rolling in, you’re not alone. Even if you’re a fan of the fall holiday, as one Reddit user pointed out, “I love Halloween and fall in general but even I think this is absurd!!” However, the recent advent of “Summerween” has made celebrating all things spooky during June and July more common. And retailers certainly aren’t going to miss the chance to provide all of the frighteningly fun candy you might need for your Summerween festivities, like fall-inspired Halloween M&Ms.

This might be the first sighting of Halloween candy in the wild, but don’t expect it to be the last. Grocery stores, warehouse retailers, and local drugstores alike are skipping right over back to school season and prepping for trick-or-treaters as July gets underway. Fall is about to roll out on store shelves everywhere, according to Reddit’s retail workers. As one user wrote, “Ours is coming right after the 4th,” so be prepared for summer to be scooted right out of sight in your local stores’ candy aisles.

Summer Isn’t Safe From Spooky Season

Sure, your candy might melt as temperatures climb to 100-plus degrees this week, but at least you’ll have some milk chocolate-covered peanut-buttery jack-o-lanterns on hand to boost your spirits.
