Everything You Need To Know About The Jalapeño Recall

Seriously, if, like the rest of us, you’re chomping away the end of summer with the help of chips, guac, pico de gallo, etc, please take a beat to hear the news before you buy, because there’s been a nationwide (26-state) recall of such products due to potential contamination by Salmonella.

Every Contaminated Product Contains Jalapeño

The affected products all contain jalapeño, which were all produced by Taylor Farms. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because the company was found to be the cause of the recent Cyclospora outbreak earlier this year. Salsa, dips, pico de gallo, guacamole, and other foods containing jalapeño were among the listed products that could be contaminated.

Taylor Fresh Foods, which supplies dip, salsa, guac, etc. for Trader Joe’s (among other stores), has already stopped sourcing their products from Taylor Farms and has recalled all products. The recall began several days ago, when Taylor Farms issued a statement saying one of their own suppliers―Coast Citrus Distributors―had issued a voluntary recall of fresh jalapeños due to possible salmonella contamination. The recall is in effect for 26 states.

Recalled products were distributed to retail centers in the following states: AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NE, NH, NY, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VT, WI, WV with a “Best If Used By” date up to and including August 16, 2026. The affected stores’ list is also considerable, including Hannaford, Kroger, Stop and Shop, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, and Whole Foods.

What You Need To Know

While recalls always sound scary, and should always be taken seriously, affected products have already been removed from shelves. If you recently purchased an item that could be contaminated, cross-check the product information with both the FDA and U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS). If you do have any affected products in your pantry or refrigerator, simply discard them.
