Krispy Kreme has been on a roll with collaborations recently. From Snoopy to Girl Scouts, the ever-glowing red neon light has become a sign of interesting logo and flavor combinations. Today, the hot & fresh doughnut bakers announced their upcoming partnership with Pokémon. Starting August 18th, Krispy Kreme bakeries nationwide (alongside select retail partners) will offer a variety of doughnuts inspired by the iconic monster-collecting franchise.
Fans purchasing a full dozen of these treats will receive a special edition Pokémon-branded box while supplies last. Alongside the six full-sized doughnuts, specialty cups (in five different Pokémon designs) packed with 10 Original Glazed® Gold Dots will be sold while supplies last. And to truly celebrate the borderline-concerning dedication of Pokémon fans, anyone wearing Pokémon attire to a participating Krispy Kreme store on Saturday, August 22nd can receive a free Original Glazed® doughnut.

An Original Glazed® doughnut dipped in vanilla-flavored icing, half-coated in red sprinkles, and piped with chocolate icing.
Much like the Poké Ball itself compared to the creatures held inside, this specific doughnut isn’t the focus of the collaboration; the flavor innovation is sidelined in favor of visual accuracy, which I doubt Pokémon fans will mind.

- Bulbasaur Krispy Kreme Pokémon Donut

An Original Glazed® doughnut dipped in vanilla-flavored icing and topped with frosting and a Bulbasaur piece.
My mom’s favorite Pokémon is Bulbasaur, so it’s unfortunate that this little guy got the least exciting donut. Outside of a few iced leaves and a plausibly edible Bulbasaur cutout, this is… an iced vanilla donut. That said, considering Bulbasaur is Pokémon #1, it is fitting to bestow upon him the most basic recipe.

- Squirtle Krispy Kreme Pokémon Donut

An Original Glazed® doughnut piped with cotton candy-flavored buttercreme, dipped in sanding sugar and nonpareils, and topped with a surfing Squirtle piece.
Now we’re talking! The turtle-esque starter Pokémon is surfing across a triple-lined wave of flavored buttercreme and bougie sprinkles. While I don’t quite see the connection between cotton candy and Squirtle (beyond many of Squirtle’s attacks being super effective against actual cotton candy), I’m just glad to see a flavor beyond vanilla.

- Jigglypuff Krispy Kreme Pokémon Donut

An Original Glazed® doughnut piped with strawberry-flavored buttercreme, sprinkled with strawberry-flavored cookie, and topped with a Jigglypuff piece.
This pink singing orb is absolutely surrounded by strawberry flavoring in multiple forms, making for a perfectly pink product. While international donut shops have done Jigglypuff slightly more justice, I’m just happy to see this collaboration finally hit the States after so many years of seeing adorable doughnuts sold in countries I don’t live in.
Izakaya, an anime-themed pizzeria and bar in my hometown of Beavercreek, Ohio (which you may have seen in the news recently), has had a fantastic Jigglypuff-inspired mocktail on the menu since they first opened. The primary flavor note there is cotton candy, so I will be facing perhaps the silliest mental hurdle when I get my hands on this donut later this month.

An unglazed shell doughnut with chocolate and toasted marshmallow-flavored filling, dipped in orange-colored caramel icing and sparks of red and gold sugar, topped with a Charmander piece.
This is a silly one. Charmander, the first fire starter, has earned a caramel s’mores flavor profile for this collaboration. While s’mores is an obvious pick, I am slightly befuddled by the caramel. Maybe there’s some Charmander lore I’m not aware of; let me know in the comments if I missed the “Charmander Eats Caramels” episodes.

- Pikachu Krispy Kreme Pokémon Donut

An unglazed shell filled with lemon-flavored Kreme™ filling dipped in vanilla icing, decorated with electrifying drizzle and nonpareils, and topped with a Pikachu piece.
Last but not least, the most popular Pokémon gets a fittingly complicated recipe. This lemon-filled donut is decorated with an icing-and-fancy-sprinkle lightning blast, surely to symbolize the jolt of flavor you’ll get from the lemon filling.
