These Aldi Chips Might Be Better Than Lay’s — But Good Luck Finding Them

We talk a lot about Aldi’s chip selection here, but there’s a reason for that: It’s pretty good. Aldi may be slightly disappointing its customers at the moment by changing its products at a rapid rate, but over in the chip aisle, things remain in a relatively good state of affairs. In the last few years, too, it’s stepped up its snack game with more interesting flavors like Nashville Hot Chicken and dill pickle-flavored chips. Let it never be said that the store doesn’t move quickly to jump on flavor trends.

One flavor, though, might stand head and shoulders above them all. We’re talking about its Clancy’s All Dressed Wavy Potato Chips, which some people say is actually better than the Lay’s version it’s duping. Here’s the score.

Clancy’s All-Dressed Wavy Potato Chips: A Dupe Worth Buying

We’ve discussed Clancy’s All-Dressed Wavy Potato Chips before. When we were highlighting its chip range a few months ago, this flavor was cited as, if you’ll excuse the pun, a bit of a mixed bag. Some people loved it; some people didn’t. 

Cut to the end of summer, though, and it seems like the tide has turned on them (or maybe Aldi’s refined its recipe) – because they’re being held in serious high esteem. A recent Reddit thread with the title “These ruined my life ruined my expectations” affirmed this, with the original poster stating how good this flavor was, and plenty of others – seriously, plenty, there are more than 200 comments in this thing – agreeing. “I have an unopened bag in the pantry. I’m not comfortable opening them until I secure a backup bag,” said one person. 

Most notable, though, was the repeated comparison to Lay’s All Dressed chips, and the number of people saying Aldi’s version is better. Some people say it’s because of the ridges (which the Lay’s version doesn’t have); all those little pockets of flavor are setting it apart, apparently. 

But Wait! Where Are They?

Unfortunately, though, all good things come to an end, at least temporarily. Customers have started to notice that Aldi’s Clancy’s All-Dressed Wavy Potato Chips have started to be hard to find in their stores, and it looks like we now have a discontinuation on our hands. BUT – importantly, and hopefully, it’ll just be a seasonal one. Clancy’s All-Dressed chips come and go, and it’s just the time of the year when they gracefully wander off into the distance, before coming back the following summer. We’d stock up now if you can.
