Candies are ice pops; ice pops are candies; it was ever thus. The crossover between these two foods has always been fairly fluid – because what is an ice pop, if not a form of frozen candy on a stick (kinda)? – but 2026 has seen a lot of them coming together. At the start of the year, Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, and 100 Grand bars got their own frozen versions, and we’ve since seen an expansion of Trolli’s Gummi Pop flavors, candy-inspired popsicles at Aldi, and plenty more besides. Things have also gone in the other direction (we’re still on the lookout for the Creamsicle Candy Twists teased earlier this year).

In short, as ever, there’s been much happening betwixt the two, and we’ve seen another example of that in the last couple of days. Lemonhead fans assemble.

Lemonhead Core Pops

Instagram snack sleuth @candyhunting recently dropped the news that Lemonhead would soon be available in a frozen core pop version and will make their grand debut at the NAC (National Association of Convenience Stores) Show, a yearly expo of new products and innovations, which will take place this year in October in Las Vegas. Lemonhead Core Pops will apparently be a combination of a creamy, sharp Lemonhead-flavored exterior, with a classic Lemonhead candy center. They will, no doubt, be refreshing, sweet, sour…everything you want from a lemon-flavored treat, really.

As these are being profiled at the NACS Show and they’re clearly a product that would absolutely shine in the summer, I’d hazard a guess that we won’t see these on store shelves much before spring 2027. But hey – good things come to those who wait, and all that (well, unless you hate Lemonheads, in which case, this news will likely be unwelcome. But you’re probably not reading this if you do, so I’m just talking into the void, really).

The Expansion Continues

Lemonhead Core Pops are the latest offshoot of the classic candy, which has appeared in a few new forms over the last year or so. The most striking of these was Freeze-Dried Lemonheads, which dropped last year, and which we enjoyed. There was a more moderate update last month, when Ferrara announced that it was releasing its Pocket Packs, with Lemonheads, Everlasting Gobstoppers, Runts, and more besides now available in smaller-sized portions. These offshoots are significant because they speak to a wider industry trend of classic candies being rebooted for new and existing audiences alike, in ways that retain their core flavors and feel but also offer today’s consumers more options, innovation, or convenience. We’d imagine there will be more to come.
