Maybe you’ve already heard, but these days, folks are leaving behind booze and reaching for non-alcoholic drinks. A few years back, when the alcohol-free trend started to take over among Gen Z and millennials, a few companies saw a chance to get in on the ground floor and make it so sober party-goers didn’t have to resort to ice tea or water. It would have seemed unbelievable a decade ago, but non-alcoholic beer is a fixture at parties and on bar menus everywhere these days—and we’re not talking about your weird uncle’s O’Doul’s. Believe it or not, but NA beer is as good as real beer now.

We’ve tasted near-beers available all over the U.S. to find the brands that do it best. Thanks to these companies, zero sacrifices need to be made in order to enjoy the taste of a craft brew and still be able to operate heavy machinery. This is the future our forefathers always wanted for us.

Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada doesn’t only do NA beer, but you wouldn’t know it based on their non-alcoholic beer’s quality. The hiking, outdoorsy brand started with its flagship Trail Pass IPA in NA form and then branched out to include a vast repertoire. Don’t gloss over the lemon radler come summer, or the hazy, heady IPA. Once the weather cools, Fest Brew is a great trail companion for an October camping trip.

Guinness

You might be thinking, “Why is Guinness on this list? Sure, they make NA beer, but only one.” Well, we’ll have you know that the non-alcoholic version of Guinness’s bellwether brew is good enough to deem Guinness a top NA beer brand. The booze-free take on the famously rich, dry stout tastes nearly identical to the legendary booze-laden version.

Best Day Brewing

Okay, we’ll admit that the beautiful, summer-ready packaging is really what pulled us into Best Day at first—but they proved to be a stellar NA beer brand. The selection is just wide enough to prevent things from getting boring without giving you a headache when you’re trying to decide which six-pack to bring to the beach. The mango IPA is the obvious choice for summer, but we’re particularly fond of the flagship hazy IPA (it’s just hazy enough) and the ultra mellow, easy-drinking Wild American pilsner.

Partake Brewing

If you’re looking for a quintessential version of every beer style you can think of, no frills, Partake Brewing is your answer. Their multi-packs are a godsend for parties when you’re not sure who likes what. They have a classic IPA, pilsner, pale ale, and blonde, but they also offer some variety with a peach gose and lime margarita-style brew.

Athletic Brewing Company

We’re finishing this list off with the undisputed king of NA beer: Athletic has the most impressive range of any alcohol-free beer company, without a doubt. Whether you’re looking for a heady IPA, a more mellow hoppy drink, a Guinness-style stout, a lite beer, a Modelo’s dupe, a tart summy shandy… honestly, the list goes on. Check out their limited-editions (which can include cocktails, too) once you make your way through the regular selection.
