Freezer space is the most finite resource in any kitchen. Cabinets? Those are aplenty. You can also store dry goods on the counter or in your bedroom in a pinch. Refrigerator? That’s like 3x the space of the average freezer. Having such precious storage space can make shopping at Costco a little tricky. I won’t lie to you, it’s going to be a tight squeeze. I do, however, promise that there are still some foods that are worth the headache. Here are the five foods at Costco that I believe are worth spending our precious freezer space on.

Kirkland Signature Organic Blueberries

I like these Kirkland Signature blueberries as a choice for our freezer for a few different reasons. You can sprinkle them into many different things (pancake batter, oatmeal, yogurt). The bag is also a bit amorphous so you can maneuver it into a crevice that a stiff box wouldn’t work into. It’s also a great incentive to make more smoothies at home when it’s taking up 3lbs worth of space in your freezer. It’s just the well-rounded pick from Costco for our freezer.

Jimmy Dean Croissant Sausage Egg & Cheese Sandwich

Jimmy Dean croissant sausage, egg, and cheese sandwiches are mighty fine breakfast sandwiches. I also love the idea of a frozen food that we’ll naturally whittle down as we build a routine around it. There are twelve sandwiches in a box from Costco which means you can have this to start your morning off for two weeks (with one day of rest, as you’d expect). That way you’ll also conveniently have just enough room to fill back up in your freezer from your biweekly trip to Costco.

Lilly B’s Organic Bean, Rice & Cheese Burrito

Lilly B’s bean, rice, and cheese burritos are just the lunch and dinner option of our breakfast sandwich situation. It’s easy to give into the temptation of an easy meal that you just have to heat up and enjoy. That temptation is going to see that whatever freezer space we invest into these burritos will be gone in no time. They’re also individually packaged so you can rip the directions off and get rid of that bulky box.

Oreo Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches

Things just keep getting better and better the longer you look at this box of Oreo mini ice cream sandwiches from Costco. First, you’re starting off with cookies and cream ice cream. Objectively, the best flavor of ice cream (argue with the wall if you disagree). Then we’ve got the word mini! Which to me and my resource-scarce brain when it comes to freezer space means we can fit them into little nooks and crannies. The pièce de résistance is that you get to end your day with a sweet treat for twenty four (or twelve if you double up) nights in a row.

Kirkland Signature Italian Sausage and Beef Lasagna

Costco’s frozen lasagna seems counter productive to the task at hand but follow me on this thought process. You get two lasagnas per package. The first of which we’re going to cook up when we get home to help us recover from a hefty trip to Costco. The second lasagna is square so it’s going to play nicely into our little game of Jenga we’ve got going on in our freezer. It’s like the long block of the frozen food world. Just place it on the bottom of a piling stack for stability.
