If you’ve been on the hunt for the best frozen breakfast sandwich, it’s no wonder you need some guidance—there are a lot of frozen breakfast sandwiches out there! Frankly, it’s overwhelming. But in two separate taste tests, we commandeered the office microwave and nuked a slew of different sammies in order to find the best frozen breakfast sandwiches for your busy mornings. Oh, are you looking for the best gluten free breakfast sandwiches or frozen croissant breakfast sandwiches? Yeah, we found ‘em.
What we were looking for in the best frozen breakfast sandwiches
We want balance. Plain and simple. Truly, we didn’t care if we were dealing with egg whites sandwiched between two gluten-free waffles or a gooey, cheesy mess on a croissant. It needs to be balanced—one element shouldn’t overpower the others in terms of flavor and texture. The beauty of a great breakfast sandwich is the homogenization of all the ingredients. It all should come together to form the perfect bite of savory breakfast, whatever that means to you.
So preheat your microwave* and make room in your freezer, because these are the best frozen breakfast sandwiches. (*Please don’t actually do that.)

- Rudi’s Gluten Free Breakfast Sandwiches Egg & Cheese Frittata with Sausage
-
We love Rudi’s gluten free garlic bread, so we were excited to try their take on brioche. And, okay, fine, the bun on this gluten free breakfast sandwich isn’t a whole lot like brioche, but it does taste like a nice sturdy potato roll, and that works for us. The bread is a little bit chewy, but it’s still tender. The egg is a little bit dry, but it’s nicely seasoned. The sausage has a nice kick of black pepper. We can’t recommend the bacon version of this gluten free breakfast sandwich (the meat tastes very strange), but the sausage version is a delight. If you’re a firm believer that a breakfast sandwich has to involve bread—even if it’s gluten free—this is the best frozen breakfast sandwich to have on hand. —Gwynedd Stuart

- Jimmy Dean Bacon Egg & Cheese Croissant
-
It should come as no surprise that the star of Jimmy Dean’s frozen croissant breakfast sandwich is the bacon. Jimmy Dean is not in the croissant business nor the cheese business (although he is in the egg bites business). He is in the meat business, and it shows. The bacon on this frozen breakfast sandwich is a little sweet and that really works when combined with the ultra savory eggs and cheese. The croissant itself is, sadly, a bit more like bread than an actual croissant, but because of the bacon, I say it’s worth it. If you’re more interested in a good croissant than good filling, on the other hand, Great Value is a better bet. The croissant on Walmart’s brand of frozen breakfast sandwiches was much more buttery, but the egg, sausage, and cheese just fell flat for me. —Justine Sterling

- Jimmy Dean Sausage Egg & Cheese Croissant
-
What does Jimmy Dean do even better than bacon? Sausage. So, if you want a frozen croissant breakfast sandwich and you prefer sausage over bacon, then here’s your pick. As with the bacon version, the croissant component is still a tad bready. But that sausage is so savory and so good. The egg is lovely and spongy. The cheese is cheese. It’s a satisfying sandwich. —Justine Sterling

- Tennessee Pride Sausage and Buttermilk Biscuits
-
I was delighted by these deceptively simple frozen breakfast sandwiches. It’s just a biscuit and sausage, but the breakfast sausage is so incredibly good—like the best diner sausage patty. It’s peppery and spiced and satisfying—even without egg or cheese. I also love that you get two tiny sandwiches per pack. Two of the best frozen breakfast sandwiches? That’s how you start the day. —Justine Sterling

- Red’s Egg’Wich Chicken Chorizo
-
Yes, it’s a gluten-free, keto-friendly frozen breakfast sandwich in the top five. It’s made with two not-too-springy egg patties in place of a bun. And while they do not have any of the same qualities as bread, they’re still very satisfying thanks to the filling. The cheese does a good job of adding some gooey moisture to the mix, but the chicken chorizo is my one true love in this sandwich. This is restaurant worthy sausage. It’s just the right amount of spicy and savory without being straight-up salty. Controversial opinion: If you just put this sandwich between two halves of an English muffin, you would have the best breakfast sandwich—it just wouldn’t be a frozen breakfast sandwich. We also really like the Red’s Egg’wich made with turkey sausage—you kind of can’t go wrong with either option. —Justine Sterling

- Start Right Waffle Sliders Sausage & Cheese
-
Breakfast doesn’t have to involve eggs—especially in this economy. This gluten free breakfast sandwich, which contains just a sausage patty and some melty American cheese, is a revelation. The waffles that serve as the “bread” have just a touch of maple-y sweetness. Even if you think McGriddles are too sweet, you’ll still like this. The cheese is salty and melty and the sausage tastes really good and savory. Of all the gluten free breakfast foods we tried in our dedicated taste test, this was the one product I kept eating after the taste test was over. The cheese gets in the waffle nooks! - Red’s Sausage Egg & Cheese
-
If you aren’t getting a bacon, egg, and cheese on a Kaiser roll from a bodega in Brooklyn, then I personally think an English muffin is the best bread for a breakfast sandwich. It’s how I make my breakfast sammies at home (using a very cool, not at all silly, single-use gadget). And this frozen breakfast sandwich, which comes on an English muffin, could pass for homemade. The muffin is fluffy. The filling is hearty. The cheese actually tastes like something—it’s more than just texture. - Jimmy Dean Biscuit Sausage, Egg & Cheese
-
But if you’re looking for something that will really stick to your ribs, something that tastes like it was brought to you by a server who called you “hon,” then you need this frozen breakfast sandwich masterpiece from the master of breakfast meat, Jimmy Dean. It looks the part—like it jumped right off one of the photos on a glossy diner menu. And it tastes great, too. The biscuit is buttery and crumbly. The egg tastes like real egg. It’s not too salty. And that sausage, as we know, is *mwah* chef’s kiss. All you need is some hot sauce. —Justine Sterling
