There are plenty of ways to make a sandwich more exciting, but adding a handful of crunchy Fritos corn chips is a pretty good place to start. Apparently, Subway fans agree, because the chain is bringing back a sandwich that has been missing from its menu since 2014. Yes, after 12 years away, the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub is finally returning, and October 27th can’t come soon enough for anyone who remembers it.

Back After 12 Years

The Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub last appeared on the menu in 2014. It returns on October 27th, for a limited time.

The sandwich brings together rotisserie-style chicken marinated in enchilada sauce, Monterey Cheddar cheese, Fritos corn chips, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onions, and Subway’s smoky Baja Chipotle sauce.

The enchilada sauce gives the chicken a savory, spiced flavor, while the Baja Chipotle sauce adds a smoky kick. The cheese gives it its creaminess, and the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions add some freshness. But of course the best thing about the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub is the crunch.

Why Wait So Long To Make A Comeback?

Well, fans have been asking for the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub for years now after it disappeared. So, I guess it was only a matter of time before Subway yielded to the pleas of fans.

A look through Reddit shows just how long some customers have been waiting for another bite. In a discussion on r/subway, one fan said they sometimes catch themselves thinking about this sandwich, and begged Subway to bring it back.

And it’s not just the taste that draws people to the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub. A Reddit user said this is the “best smelling sub” they have ever had.

But then I think this comeback raises an interesting question: If customers respond well to this comeback, could Subway bring it back more often?

The Caramel Apple Cookie Is Also Coming Back

Subway isn’t stopping with the sandwich. The chain is also bringing back its Caramel Apple Cookie, which last appeared on the menu in 2021.

This fall treat combines apple pieces, caramel chips, and salted caramel crunch, with caramel icing drizzled over the top. It’s a sweet combination that sounds right at home on an autumn dessert menu.

Both the Fritos sub and Caramel Apple Cookie arrive on October 27th at participating Subway locations nationwide and will only be available for a limited time.

Subway Is Celebrating National Sandwich Day A Week Early

National Sandwich Day falls on November 3rd, but Subway is starting its celebration on Tuesday, October 27th. The chain is moving the date forward by a week because November 3rd is also U.S. midterm Election Day.

But anyone who prefers to celebrate on the traditional date doesn’t have to worry: Subway says the returning menu items and its sandwich promotion will still be available on November 3rd.

The promotion is a buy-one-get-one-free Footlong deal for current and new Sub Club members. It runs from October 27th through November 8th and applies to qualifying orders placed through Subway’s app or website at participating U.S. restaurants.

Is It Worth Trying?

I’d say the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub is hands down the best Subway sub ever, but the big question is whether it can live up to the memories. Subway has gotten more expensive over the years and more stingy with their portions. I’m a bit worried this might be a shadow of its former self.

For anyone who remembers the original, October 27th is a chance to see whether the sandwich still delivers. For everyone else, it’s an opportunity to try a Subway creation that has been missing since 2014.
