We Tried Subway’s New Hot Honey Nachos And They’re What The World Needs

When it’s time to go full sandwich on your appetite, few places are better suited to help you than Subway. Anyone who’s frequented Subway for years likely remembers how awesome the $5 footlong deal was. For just five measly bucks, you could get yourself a huge sandwich that was pretty much two meals in one. Yeah, things were pretty good before inflation reared its nasty head and jacked the prices of everything way up. But, Subway still remains one of the go-to spots for anyone craving a sandwich and that’s why we’ll always love it.

But, lo and behold, Subway just unveiled an item that’s totally unsandwich-like (gasp), and it’s only available until October 26th. Now you can order up not just one, not just two, but three different variations of hot honey nachos. Are you jumping for joy yet? Well, you should be. These nachos are absolutely awesome, and frankly, they put the sandwiches to shame. So we implore you to run (don’t walk) to your nearest Subway and see for yourself why we’re singing praises about these nachos.

These Nachos Are “Swicy” Done Right

Let’s start with the base of chips first, which do a ton of the legwork in terms of flavor here. Subway doesn’t use plain tortilla chips. That would be Boring with a capital “B.” Nacho cheese Doritos are used as the backbone, which is a brilliant move. You never see Doritos used for nachos, which, after taking one bite of these, leaves you confused as to why. Using a flavor-dusted chip seems so obvious, and now that Subway’s doing it, more people should steal the idea. 

Now we move to the toppings, which work together seamlessly. You get a pile of Monterey cheddar cheese, a variety of veggies like red onion, jalapeño, and tomato (you can add more if you’d like), and then a hefty drizzle of that sweet-spicy hot honey sauce to marry the whole platter in one helluva tasty matrimony. The jalapeños do a wonderful job of offering an extra kick of heat in case the hot honey isn’t hitting your Scoville scale quite where you want it to and the gooey Monterey cheddar lends a creaminess to every chip. Of course, the hot honey is the star of the show and it’s so darn yummy you’ll want to ask for a cup of it to bring home (try to resist doing that). It balances both the sweet and heat with ease, and every chip you pull from the pile is coated with it. Also keep in mind you have the option to add extra cheese, chicken, or steak to the nachos, and honestly, all three are equally as delicious.

A Welcome Change From Sandwiches

Whoever thought of this idea in Subway’s marketing meeting deserves a huge raise. These nachos are a fantastic departure from regular sandwiches, and they get us excited to see what other culinary curveballs Subway is going to throw our way in the future. Hip, hip, hooray for hot honey!
