Customers Have Serious Problems With Aldi’s Quality Control

What’s going on at Aldi? It seems like things have taken a serious downward turn at the supermarket over the summer. Virtually every week, we were seeing yet another thread on social media discussing recipe changes to beloved items, and it got to the point where it was difficult to keep up with what was going well.

This isn’t hyperbole, either: Anyone who’s taken a look at Aldi’s subreddit over the last few months will be well aware that its customers are at the end of their tether, and a recent thread summed up how everyone’s been feeling about the current state of its stock. Here’s what people are saying. 

Moving On

A couple of days ago, a Redditor posted a new thread with the title, “I think we’re done.” In the thread, the original poster detailed their issues with Aldi’s quality control of late. “We’ve had bone shards and full joint pieces in the boneless chicken, we’ve had multiple pits in the pitted black olives, and just this morning we had a red egg white,” they said. “I know quality control around the country isn’t great these days either but I think we are going to try shopping somewhere else. I can’t be feeding my kids this stuff.” 

The thread has now attracted well over 1,000 comments, with other people pointing out their own experiences of subpar quality control at Aldi. Bone flakes in tuna; cheese that’s already melted in the packaging; milk that turns sour before the best-by date; moldy hummus; underweight items; netting pieces in frozen fish. The list is pretty endless. Another thread posted just the day before also pointed out that someone had found a shard of plastic in their hash browns, and in that one, someone commented that they’d found a piece of metal in an Aldi sausage a couple of months back. The mood is pretty negative out there, and for good reason. 

What’s The Deal?

The initial thread (which is one of several very popular threads posted in recent weeks about the current state of Aldi’s stock) attracted dozens of comments from people lamenting where the store’s at, and giving their own theories as to why things have gone downhill. Corner-cutting, changing supply chains, and trying to keep up with, or respond to, new/decreased regulation were just a few reasons offered. Others also pointed out that Aldi’s not alone in this, with people naming Walmart as having similar quality control. There’s no denying that the mood is especially bleak in the Aldi camp, though — and unless things change soon, it might get even worse.
