Welcome all to our returning series here at Sporked where we break down the very best things that we’ve eaten throughout our week. And trust us, we eat a lot. This week, in particular, is interesting in the fact that the best things we ate don’t include anything new. Instead, they’re reconnections with lost loves. These three things we’ve known and loved, but they came back onto our plates this week… and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Wyler’s Italian Ice

These, to me, were not a new taste, but in fact the most familiar and nostalgic. They’re essentially just freezer pops, but oh my, are they so much more. They’re tender and slushy-like even when fully frozen, not icy and crisp like most freezer pops. And the flavors are unlike anything I’ve ever tasted in a freezer pop. The lemon, kiwi watermelon, and orange crème flavors are exceptionally juicy, bright, and satisfying.

These are far and by my favorite childhood treat, creating a bit of a family legend around my freezer pop eating abilities. But every once in a while, when I visit family as a full grown adult, I get to have a couple of these beloved pops and am reminded at their absolute superiority in flavor and texture.

Bo-Berry Biscuit

Thinking back to nostalgic favorites, and when in proximity to a Bojangles, I was inevitably led back to the buttery tenderness of a sweet and fruity Bo-Berry Biscuit. Every time I have one, which is rare, I immediately ask the question: why doesn’t everyone make sweet biscuits? They’re kind of the perfect easy pastry. You could go from having done nothing at all to having the biscuits on the table in under an hour and it has everything a great pastry needs.

It has textural contrast between the crunch of the crust and the fluffy buttery interior. And it’s naturally going to be balanced between the salty and sweet. The dough of the biscuit, aside from the berries, is really not that sweet. Its butteriness and saltiness pairs in such a lovely pair to the light glaze poured on top. And they’re served hot. What could be better than that?

Breakstone’s Whipped Salted Butter

There’s nothing so comforting as spreading some lovely soft butter across your next bite. And nothing tastes so creamy and spreads as wonderfully as the Breakstone’s Whipped Salted Butter. Whipped butter is far from applicable in every setting. But in the case of spreading across bread or something like an ear of corn, there’s nothing that does the job quite the same. And while it’d be nice to assume that we all have the time, energy, and ambition to whip our regular sticks of butter ourselves, sometimes we just want to have something ready and on hand. For this, I was reminded, I should always turn to Breakstone’s.
