Good news if you like your Arizona iced tea really, really cold: You can now get it in the freezer aisle. And no it isn’t just a bunch of frozen, half-exploded cans of tea hidden in random spots all over the supermarket, because we all know that is something eighth graders would do (seeing as eighth graders’ top two favorite things are pranks and Arizona Iced Tea). No, I mean real, purposeful Arizona in the freezer section. How? Van Leeuwen strikes again! The company that brought us ice cream flavored like pizza, Kraft Mac & Cheese, Hidden Valley Ranch, and Grey Poupon and Pretzel (not to mention lots of totally normal flavors) is bringing us an Arizona Green Tea with Honeycomb flavor, and I couldn’t be more stoked.
What will this new Arizona green tea ice cream be like? Will it taste more like a can of Arizona or more like a classic green tea ice cream you might get elsewhere?
Alright, here’s the scoop (heh). While we knew the packaging would have that telltale seafoam-green-with-pink-flowers aesthetic that is so iconic to Arizona Tea, the rest of the info about this ice cream remained a mystery until just recently, when people started buying it and trying it out. The verdict? The ice cream itself is not green or brown, it is greenish brown; one reviewer noted that it looks like guacamole. As for the taste, the consensus seems to be that it is extremely accurate to Arizona Tea. It also has lil honeycomb pieces in it for a bit of texture. Essentially, it is a sweet green tea ice cream with little crunchy honeycomb pieces. Consumers think it tastes a heck of a lot like Arizona Iced Tea, but from what I can tell from these reviews, it still has enough earthiness that if you are a green tea person and not necessarily an Arizona person, you still might like this quite a bit. And that’s the tea.*
Go pick up a pint at your local Walmart if you’re curious, it should be showing up there sometime soon if it’s not there already, along with a bunch of other flavors from Van Leeuwen’s summer collection, some new and some returning: Banana Cream Pie, Key Lime Pie, Tiramisu, Kiwi Burst, and Summer Peach Crisp. And hey, they are only here for a limited time, so if you want ‘em, get ‘em while they’re hot…er…so to speak.
*This was a rare occurrence where I could make both a “here’s the scoop” and “that’s the tea” joke in the same article. I feel like I just watched a once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower.
