News flash: Astronaut ice cream is not actually eaten in space. Though freeze dried ice cream was originally created for use during the Apollo missions, it turned out to be unfit for in space consumption. The reality of what astronauts eat these days, like the Artemis II crew itself, is actually quite interesting.

That said, there’s no open kitchen up in the sky, so options are limited. Thankfully, the astronauts shared their requests with home base and in our social media rich society, those requests were shared with us. So what was the food that the Artemis II Astronauts requested most?
Much like NFL football players, astronauts are all about Uncrustables
Yes, according to news reports out of NASA HQ, “uncrusted sandwiches” were the “biggest request.” NASA didn’t specifically shout out Uncrustables, but Uncrustables was quick to run with the news. Rightfully so—they originated the “uncrusted” sandwich and I certainly can’t see mission control pulling out a jar of peanut butter and jelly themselves to make their own, so Smucker’s can take credit where it’s due.
Uncrustables made such a spectacle of the news that they went as far as promising a lifetime supply of sandwiches for the Artemis II crew upon their return. That’s a trick to keep in mind in case any of us ever go into space. Just start rattling off all your favorite foods and see if the brands bite.
