I’ve eaten a lot of low sugar gummies, both for business and pleasure. I love eating low sugar gummies at the movies because I can mindlessly devour a whole bag without being like, jesus, I just ate an entire bag of full sugar gummies. When I taste tested and ranked a whole slew of low sugar candies, Albanese Gummy Bears were the best of the best, but there are new low sugar gummy bears in town: Atkins Endulge Gummy Bears and Sour Gummy Bears.

Atkins has a whole line of “Endulge” products that includes peanut butter cups, chocolate bars, and even a low sugar version of Peanut M&M’s. My question: What the HELL does “Endulge” mean?! It’s not even a pun, unless it’s a portmanteau of “end bulge,” in which case, barf. But I digress. We’ve tried a few of them in the past and liked them (especially the M&M’s dupe). But can these new diet gummy bears scratch that gummy bear itch?

Note: If sugar alcohols like erythritol (which is in the sour bears) and rare sugars like allulose (which is in both products) bother your stomach, eating these might be an issue. Anecdotally, I was very bloated after “endulging” in these gummy bears.

New Product!

Atkins Endulge Gummy Bears

Pros: If you keep an eye on carbs (which I imagine you do if you’re even considering eating Atkins-branded gummy bears), a 1.06 ounce packet of these has only 2g of net carbs (24g carbs minus 13g fiber minus 8g allulose), which is pretty dang low. They taste decent, too. I like the fruity flavors, the pineapple in particular.

Cons: It may be a pro if you’re not into super chewy gummies, but these have a VERY soft chew. There’s almost no give. They’re more like little jelly bears than gummy bears. Suffice it to say, these will not scratch your gummy bear itch if Haribo Goldbears are your jam. They also have a pretty strong sugar substitute aftertaste.

New Product!

Atkins Endulge Sour Gummy Bears

Pros: These sour gummy bears, which are coated in a sour dust that resembles the sour sugar on other sour candies, have a little more chew than the plain gummy bears, and I think that’s a good thing. Same macros too: 2g net carbs, less than 1g sugar, and just 30 calories a packet, which is actually lower than the 35 calories in the plain gummy bears. Not sure how they pulled that off, but I’m not a food scientist! I leave that to the Atkins folks!

Cons: These sour gummy bears are not sour. They’re a little tangier than the regular ones, but they’re not going to make you wince by a longshot. Luckily, the texture makes up for that shortcoming.

About the Author

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
