The Best Aldi Bread, Ranked

Want to save money on groceries and get that bread? Behold: the Aldi bread aisle. Where all your wildest budget bread dreams really do come true!

Scoring top-tier grocery deals at Aldi is practically a lifestyle. You know what else is a lifestyle? Bread. Baking bread, buying bread, slicing bread…smelling bread, eating bread, talking about bread…I’m a bread head, if that’s not obvious. And I have to say, for a budget grocer that only stocks a limited number of brands, Aldi has a pretty bangin’ bread selection. From crusty artisan loaves (like the Aldi garlic bread) to breakfast pastries and sandwich staples (Aldi sourdough bread, anyone?), let’s take a look at the best Aldi bread to load into your shopping carts.

Best Aldi Bread - Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Aldi Bread!

L’oven Fresh Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Is this the best cinnamon raisin bread we’ve ever had? Nah. But does the plentiful distribution of plump, juicy raisins that make up for its otherwise lackluster texture? Definitely. Cons: It’s a little dry. Pros: When toasted, the slices come out soft and moist. And let me tell you, those raisins really make this bread worthwhile!

Best Aldi Bread - Aldi Sourdough Bread

Aldi Bread!

Specially Selected Sliced Sourdough Round

“Okay, that’s pretty good,” said editor-in-chief Justine Sterling. As the author of our sourdough bread ranking, it’s safe to say her judgment here is pretty sound. Aldi sourdough bread has that signature fermented tang and a soft, airy texture. It’s hard to find good sourdough bread in stores—and while the slices are a bit thinner than I’d like, for bread from a budget grocer, Aldi sourdough bread definitely gets the job done.

Best Aldi Bread - Italian Bread

Aldi Bread

Specially Selected Italian Bread Loaf

This Aldi Italian bread has a nice tang to it, almost reminiscent of Aldi sourdough bread. It’s a little on the denser side, but when baked, the loaf tears nicely, and the tang comes through even stronger. If someone served this to me as a first course at a restaurant with a little garlic butter, I’d be pretty pleased.

Best Aldi Bread - Aldi Croissants

Aldi Bread

Specially Selected All Butter Croissants

First thing’s first: These butter croissants taste much better than they look. They look a little limp, a little trampled, but you know what? Life can be cruel to us all. While these are a little more doughy than flaky, we actually kind of loved that about them. They’re super soft, buttery, and moist—not at all dry. When you bake them, they come out golden and a little flakier than they are unheated. Plus, you get six croissants for four bucks—even for Aldi bread, these are a pretty good deal.

Best Aldi Bread - French Bread

Aldi Bread!

Specially Selected French Baguette

I’ll get to the taste of this Aldi French bread, but first I just want to say—sometimes, serving freshly baked bread is about aesthetics. And for a French baguette under $2, this is quite an elegant loaf. It’s soft and airy like a cloud, tears beautifully, and has a rich yeasty flavor. This Aldi bread would absolutely impress at a dinner party.

Best Aldi Bread - Graintastic Bread

Aldi Bread!

Simply Nature Graintastic Organic Bread

You guys might think we’re a little crazy for ranking this so high, but the Simply Nature Graintastic Organic Bread from Aldi is just too good for what it is: a hearty grain bread. The dough itself is soft and a little squishy, but since it’s packed with whole grains, the texture has such an interesting contrast. It’s comparable to (dare I say, better than?) Dave’s Killer. And hey, not everyone wants to snack on multigrain bread every day, but I can’t deny this is some of the best bread at Aldi.

Best Aldi Bread - Chocolate Chip Brioche

Aldi Bread!

Specially Selected Chocolate Chip Sliced Brioche Loaf

Yes, the rumors are true: Brioche is not technically bread (it’s technically pastry). Call me a liar and a cheat for including it on the list of best Aldi bread, but I won’t be silenced by mere semantics. Do you want to make yummy chocolate chip French toast for cheap? Buy this. Just like the cinnamon raisin bread, which doesn’t skimp on raisins, this bread doesn’t skimp on chocolate chips—but unlike the cinnamon raisin bread, the fresh, doughy texture of this brioche is immaculate.

Best Aldi Bread - Parmesan Garlic Bread

Aldi Bread!

L’oven Fresh Parmesan Romano Garlic Bread

Hi. It’s me, the resident parmesan freak. I wouldn’t shut up about this Parmesan Romano Garlic Bread when I tried it. This loaf is buttery, garlicky, lightly seasoned with Italian spices, and layered with greasy parmesan cheese that only gets stronger when you bake it. For $3, I was shocked by how yummy and affordable this artisanal Aldi bread was. L’oven Fresh also makes a normal garlic bread (sans parmesan) you can buy, but if you ask me, the parmesan here is the most addictive part.

Runner Up, Best Aldi Bread - Mini Garlic Naan

Runner Up

Specially Selected Garlic Mini Naan

Let me say what we’re all thinking: Good store-bought garlic naan is not easy to come by. I’m not going to name names, but I’ve tasted enough brands in the past to know that Aldi naan bread deserves serious recognition. Warmed in the oven, these flatbreads are pillowy, soft, golden, and have a strong garlic flavor that you don’t have to hunt for (most grocery store garlic not is just not garlicky enough, in my opinion). Specially Selected also sells a larger garlic naan that anyone looking for a flatbread to dress up with sauce and veggies should definitely try! It’s not as garlicky as the minis, but the texture is still great.

Best of the Best Aldi Bread

Best of the Best

L’oven Fresh Pains au Chocolat

FYI: I had no idea Aldi Pans au Chocolate were a viral internet sensation last year until after I tried (and ranked them) in this list, but, man oh man, I totally get it. These sweet, chocolatey, buttery rolls taste like they’re straight from a patisserie, and if that offends any French pastry purists, I’m sorry. (Actually, I’m not. I’m not sorry.) The chocolate sticks rolled into the brioche dough have a strong cocoa flavor, offset nicely by the light and bright sweetness of the rolls. These are super soft, rich, and comforting. The pack comes with eight rolls for $5, and one or two is plenty for a quick breakfast, making this one of the best Aldi bread deals you can find.
