For some, Easter baskets are filled with exciting and delicious surprises. For others, they’re fraught with danger. If you’re allergic or sensitive to nuts, dairy, or gluten, then Easter can be almost as scary as Halloween (which is doubly scary because it offers dairy- and nut-filled candies on top of actual scares). Lucky for you (or a child in your life who has allergies), we tasted a bunch of allergy friendly Easter candy and found the very best.

How we chose allergy friendly Easter candy for our taste test

We looked for Easter candy that was specifically labeled as being allergy friendly in some way. We included gluten free Easter candy, nut free Easter candy, dairy free Easter candy, and Easter candy that checked multiple allergy friendly boxes—egg free, shellfish free, sesame free, etc. We also only tasted Easter candy in this taste test. There are certainly plenty more allergy friendly treats out there that you could hide in an Easter egg, but the ones we sourced were Easter-y in some way.

What we looked for in the best allergy friendly Easter candy

Aside from being as allergy free as possible, we looked for the same qualities in allergen free Easter candy as we did in our search for the best Easter candy in general. We wanted fun, bright flavors if the candy was fruity, or creamy, rich chocolate if it was chocolate. And, of course, we wanted cute designs. Because the best allergy safe Easter candy deserves to be just as cute as the other stuff.

Dum-Dums Bunny Pops

Best Lollipops

Dum-Dums Bunny Pops

Free of: peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, wheat, gluten, and sesame

These allergy friendly lollipops aren’t reinventing the wheel. Though they come in a variety of colors, they’re simply round lollipops printed with bunnies. But they will certainly satisfy a kiddo on Easter. They taste a lot like a lollipop you’d get from the bank or after getting a haircut as a kid—sweet and fruity. But how good was a bank lollipop back in the day? If you’re stocking an allergy friendly Easter basket, these lollipops will round it out nicely.

Mini Pea Not Veggs

Best “Chocolate” Eggs

Mini Pea Not Veggs

Free of: dairy, tree nut, peanut, gluten, soy, artificial colors and flavors

Can’t have Reese’s Eggs? This dairy free Easter candy isn’t really a one-to-one dupe, but it’s still good and it’ll scratch that itch. The sunflower seed butter is shockingly peanutty and really creamy. And the chocolate coating is rich and chocolaty with only a hint of that not-real-chocolate flavor on the finish.

YumEarth Jelly Beans

Best Jelly Beans

YumEarth Jelly Beans

Free of: peanuts, gluten, tree nuts, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, soy, sesame, high fructose corn, artificial dyes

Certified vegan and made without artificial dyes, these jelly beans (which you can get as part of a YumEarth Easter egg hunt kit) are really good. They don’t just taste like generic, fruity jelly beans. They actually taste like real(ish) fruit flavors! The cherry is bright and vibrant. The peach is gentle and sweet. The apple is slightly tart and yummy. And the candy coating isn’t too thick, like some Easter jelly beans.

Annie’s Sour Bunnies

Best Gummy Candy

Annie’s Sour Bunnies

Free of: gluten, gelatin, artificial flavors, synthetic colors, high fructose corn syrup

Sour allergy friendly Easter candy?! It’s a first for me, too. But Annie’s does it oh so right. These little gummy bunnies are really, really good. Each pack comes with three flavors: cherry, lemon, and orange. And all of them are really fruity and bright and zippy and actually sour. I promise you won’t confuse these with fruit snacks. Even though they’re gelatin-free they still have more of a gummy candy texture than fruit snacks. And they certainly taste like candy. If you’re looking for A+ Easter candy that is gluten free, look no further.

No Whey! Foods Jake the Milkless Easter Bunny

Best of the Best

No Whey! Foods Jake the Milkless Easter Bunny

Free of: milk, peanut, tree nut, gluten, egg, soy, sesame, artificial colors and flavors

We previously included Jake in our best chocolate bunny ranking. And tasting him again I support that inclusion. This dairy free Easter chocolate bunny is darn good for being vegan chocolate. He’s creamy, he has genuine chocolate flavor, and he’s cute. No, it’s not Lindt, but this dairy free Easter chocolate is better than a lot of dairy-full Easter chocolate on the shelves right now.
