The Bettergoods brand recently emerged as an aesthetically pleasing alternative to Walmart’s Great Value house brand. We love Great Value (because we quite literally love great values and they make a lot of good products that are cheap as hell), but Bettergoods has definitely turned our heads.
In the past, we’ve taste tested Bettergoods frozen pizzas and Bettergoods ice cream, and in both taste tests there were a small handful of winners and a bunch of products we wouldn’t necessarily recommend that you go out of your way to buy. But I’d say when it comes to Bettergoods snacks—Bettergoods chips, crackers, dehydrated veggie chips, etc.—their track record is a little bit better. I loved the top three snacks on this list and would for sure seek them out again. If you’re try-curious about the Bettergood brand, here are the best Bettergoods snacks to stock up on.

- Bettergoods Heirloom Blue Corn and Multigrain Tortilla Chips

These Bettergoods chips are fried in 100% avocado oil and are studded with sunflower seeds, brown flax seeds, and brown rice. They’re nice! I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy them again, but I like that they have a fresh flavor and a blue corn heartiness, plus the added seeds give the chips a good texture. They’re a little dry, but that’s okay. Greasy tortilla chips can feel really heavy and these avoid that pitfall.

- Bettergoods Sea Salt and Sesame Crackers

Rice crackers studded with sesame seeds are big in my household. We almost always have some in the pantry. And these Bettergoods brand rice crackers are good! If we shopped at Walmart, we would certainly buy them! They have that toasty sesame flavor that elevates them way above plain rice crackers. They’re fresh and crunchy. And they’re about a dollar cheaper than the sesame crackers at the Albertsons-owned grocery store where we do our shopping. Smear them with soft cheese or dunk them in hummus.

- Bettergoods Thai-Style Pineapple Fried Rice Crackers

Of the Bettergoods snacks we tried, these crackers are probably the most unique. They’re true snack crackers—they’re small and triangular, perfect for popping but not topping (feel free to use that, Bettergoods brand). Do they taste like pineapple fried rice? Not really. But they do taste like a combo of soy sauce powder and something sweet, kind of like Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos, minus the heat. I absolutely HOUSED this box of Bettergoods crackers.

- Bettergoods Red Pacific Sea Salt Potato Chips

I have no idea what “red Pacific sea salt” is supposed to taste like, but these potato chips taste like paprika and MSG, and I love them. There’s something earthy and vegetal in there, too, and I suspect it’s the beet powder they add for color along with the paprika. All in all, the flavor dust on these chips is very tasty and complex. These aren’t kettle chips—they’re big, relatively thin potato chips (not as crackly as Lay’s, but more like Golden Flake). The chips themselves are high quality, they aren’t super greasy, and they actually taste like they originated as potatoes. They’re just very nice, salted potato chips with a little something extra going on. This is one of the Bettergoods snacks I would happily bring to a party.

I absolutely lost it for these Bettergoods chips during our Bettergoods brand taste test. The chips are kettle-style, and they’re crunchy and flavorful. They’re not very big. That would be my only criticism. If you like BIG potato chips, you will be disappointed that these are petite. But wow, the flavor! THE FLAVOR. They have a briny, mustardy tang, along with a little bit of sweetness and some smokiness, too. And heat! It really simmers and settles in your throat in a pleasant way. I think if you made me taste these without telling me the flavor, I would guess that they are honey mustard, but that would make the heat confusing. Either way, man, they are good. Like, I NEVER bring home bags of potato chips (I don’t need potato chips in my home), but I brought these home.
