The best box of chocolates is beautiful, bountiful, and, most importantly, big. These iconic heart-shaped containers should have a wide variety of chocolates and a very clear map showing which chocolate is which, so you don’t wind up biting into orange creme when you really wanted caramel. Valentine’s Day chocolates should feel elegant and romantic. Ultimately, the best box of chocolates should be the perfect sweet to give your sweet for Valentine’s Day.
We gathered all of the most popular boxes of chocolates for Valentine’s Day in the Sporked office and had a very informative (and romantic) afternoon. These are the best Valentine’s Day chocolates to buy this year.

- Russell Stover Assorted Milk & Dark Chocolates
-
Russell Stover is a classic. Their boxes of chocolates have been solidifying relationships for as long as boxes of chocolates have been gracing supermarket shelves. And they are a Valentine’s Day staple for a reason! Their chocolates are tasty, affordable, and beautiful. Their boxes are big. You get a nice mix of sweets. Dark chocolate and milk chocolate. Nuts and nutless. Circles and squares. The diversity in their mix is both aesthetically pleasing and delicious. You can’t go wrong with Russell Stover. The dark chocolate nut caramel is especially delicious.

- Whitman’s Sampler Assorted Milk & Dark Chocolates
-
If you’re saying to yourself, “How can Whitman’s and Russell Stover both be ‘Best Classic’?” Because they’re basically same. There are so few differences between these two brands of chocolate, and that’s actually a good thing! They’re both delicious, diverse, and available nationwide. Gwynedd is a diehard Whitman’s gal. Liv Averett, Sporked’s graphic designer, leaned more toward Russell Stover. I found them to be almost identical, and I suspect I’m right, given that Russell Stover acquired Whitman’s back in 1993. We all agreed, however, that we’d be thrilled to receive either box of chocolates.

- Godiva Goldmark Assorted Chocolate Creations
-
If you want an updated version of a classic box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day, Godiva is the best box of chocolates you can buy. The chocolates in this box of chocolates taste expensive. Instead of everything being a truffle or a creme, all the flavors in this box are different from each other. You also get a unique mix of wrapped and unwrapped chocolates, which is rare in Valentine’s chocolate boxes. I liked this box of chocolates so much that I brought it home to my girlfriend.

- Ghirardelli Signature Collection
-
This was the best box of chocolates we tried—they’re so fancy and unique! The little heart-shaped cups feel decadent. If they didn’t come in a Ghirardelli box, I would think these chocolates were handmade by a local chocolatier at a fancy candy store. The chocolates come in chocolate hazelnut truffle with toffee bits, milk chocolate caramel truffle, chocolate almond truffle, and dark chocolate and cacao nib truffle. If you’re really trying to impress someone or your lover has expensive taste, give them this box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day.
