The Best Canned (and Bottled) Lattes We Found in a Taste Test

The best canned lattes eliminate the need for a stop at the coffee shop, but they taste (almost) as good as barista-brewed coffee. If espresso mixed with steamed milk is your morning drink of choice, I’m pleased to report that there are lots of grab-and-go options at the grocery store. Prefer an Americano? Sorry, you’re out of luck. But you’re gonna find a lotta lattes—just hope you like ‘em cold.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t think canned and bottled lattes—even the best lattes on the market—are going to supplant your favorite drink from your favorite local coffee shop. Keep supporting small businesses; always tip your baristas. But a canned latte is a great supplement  when you get a sudden craving for coffee at the grocery store or only have time to stop for gas on the way to work and need to grab something quick from the convenience store (and it’s 8:30 a.m. so you’d feel guilty grabbing a Diet Coke). The next time a latte emergency strikes, these are the best canned lattes to buy.

Best Large Format

Starbucks Vanilla Latte

This is a little bit of a format buster for this list. While most of the lattes we tried came in individually sized bottles and cans, this Starbucks Vanilla Latte comes in a big ol’ 40-ounce bottle that you can keep in the fridge and fill your to-go mug with before you rush out the door in the morning. It’s also good for households with multiple adults. And, yes, it tastes good, especially if you’re accustomed to the flavor of Starbucks coffee and you like a very sugary latte flavor. Is this latte dramatically different than a bottled vanilla Frappuccino? No, not really. But it tastes pretty good and I think its packaging makes it uniquely useful.

Best Vanilla

La Colombe Oatmilk Vanilla Latte

Vanilla is one of the most popular latte flavors (by a longshot), and this oat milk version from La Colombe was the best version we tried in our taste test. And it’s dairy free! We actually tasted this head to head with La Colombe’s regular dairy vanilla latte and liked this one way better. This one is creamier and doesn’t have as harsh of an extract flavor. Something about the thickness of the oat milk just works better. If you like a flavored latte, this is the best canned latte going.

Best Oat Milk

Rise Brewing Co. Oat Milk Latte

If you (like me) are sad that soy milk is basically being phased out of the coffee shop world, it’s time to get on the oat milk train. It’s creamy and delicious and perfect in a latte, canned or otherwise. All of oat milk’s best qualities are really pronounced in this Rise Oat Milk Latte. It’s ultra creamy and sweet without being too sweet. Honestly, none of these canned lattes are as coffee-forward as they could be, but if you love oat milk, you’ll love this. It’s indulgent and delicious and it would make a list of the best canned lattes even if it weren’t dairy free.

Best of the Best

La Colombe Triple

When it comes to the best canned lattes, La Colombe is the most trustworthy brand going. And this Triple latte was the only one that really tasted like coffee. It tastes roasty and good. It even smells like coffee as soon as you crack open the can. It has a little bit of bitterness that lingers in your throat as you sip, but in a good, espresso-y way. If you want a canned latte that actually tastes like a latte, this is the best latte you can buy in a grab-and-go format. Did I mention it has 175 milligrams of caffeine per can?
