Remember when frozen yogurt was everywhere? We thought it was some sort of healthy, miracle ice cream substitute that would make us all look like Jennie Garth. Alas, it turns out frozen yogurt still contains sugar and fat. But that doesn’t mean we should turn our backs on it. Because frozen yogurt tastes really good. And, as we found out in a recent taste test, you can actually buy some truly delicious frozen yogurt in a pint at your local grocery store. No soft serve machine or weighing necessary.
What we looked for in the best frozen yogurt:
- Tang! What sets frozen yogurt apart from ice cream? It’s tangy! Ideally, the best frozen yogurt has that signature tang.
- Creamy texture. No icy pints for us, please!
- Pure flavors. Just like with the best ice cream, the best frozen yogurt should also have rich, focused flavor.
We conducted our first frozen yogurt taste test three years ago. And, sadly, most of the best frozen yogurt brands we found in that tasting have disappeared from freezers. Luckily, a new generation of frozen yogurt pints has risen. Here are the best frozen yogurt flavors you can buy at the grocery store. And if you’re looking for the best frozen yogurt bars, we ranked those, too.

- Yasso Mint Chocolate Chip
-
Yasso makes some pretty good frozen yogurt bars and now they make pints of frozen yogurt, too. And while the frozen yogurt isn’t a dupe for real frozen yogurt shop yogurt (jump to number one for that), it is probably the best frozen yogurt you’ll be able to find at most grocery stores. The mint chip flavor isn’t toothpaste-y and the chocolate chips are good. They actually taste like chocolate.

- Yasso Cookie Dough
-
This is the best frozen yogurt for mix-in freaks. While the base frozen yogurt is essentially just cold and sweet, the cookie dough chunks are pretty darn good and plentiful. If you’re steering clear of cookie dough ice cream for whatever reason but still craving those cold balls of salty-sweet dough, this is the best frozen yogurt for you.

- Trujoy Yogurt Madagascar Vanilla
-
While it doesn’t have the iconic tang of the Classic Tart flavor (more on that soon), Trujoy’s Madagascar Vanilla frozen yogurt tastes like straight up frozen vanilla pudding—or maybe frozen rice pudding without the rice. And that’s great. It’s fluffy and practically chewable. And it’s really decadent without being sugary.

- Trujoy Yogurt Chocolate
-
Much like the Trujoy Madagascar Vanilla the chocolate frozen yogurt from Trujoy tastes like frozen pudding—but this time it’s chocolate. It has a rich cocoa quality and it’s not too sweet at all. If you have a chilly chocolate craving but want something lighter than ice cream, then this is the best frozen yogurt to buy.

- Trujoy Yogurt Classic Tart
-
I really didn’t think it was possible, but Trujoy has managed to capture the flavor and texture of real yogurt shop frozen yogurt in a pint. It is impossibly creamy and light and it truly does taste like the original frozen yogurt. It’s tangy and seriously perfect—an ideal base for anything from fruit compote to those tiny gummy bears that get really hard (you love ‘em or hate ‘em, I love ‘em). This frozen yogurt is so yogurty that I say it’s a-ok if you have it for breakfast topped with berries and granola.
