I’ll just come out and say it: Marshmallow cereal, even the best marshmallow cereal, is pretty insane. You’re gonna take sugary cereal and add sugary marshmallows? Psycho behavior, tbh. But even if it doesn’t exactly make a balanced breakfast, the best marshmallow cereal is delicious and nostalgic as all get out.

We recently sat down and tried six different marshmallow cereals, including a Ghost protein cereal with marshmallows and a Kellogg’s-Squishmallows collab, and found three that are worth your while, even if you aged out of Saturday morning cartoons.

Best Fruity

Marshmallow Fruity Pebbles

The best marshmallow cereals are texturally interesting, and that’s what we liked best about Marshmallow Fruity Pebbles. As it is, Fruity Pebbles are sweet as hell. Do they need crunchy little marshmallows to contribute even more sugar? Absolutely not. But, the teeny-tiny crispy little flakes work so well with the crunchy little marshmallows in the mix. Also, if you haven’t had Fruity Pebbles in a while, this is your reminder that they’re so tangy and fun. This marshmallow cereal is a perfect breakfast-for-dessert situation, OR a really good topping for some vanilla ice cream.

Best Classic Marshmallow Cereal

Lucky Charms

We figured Lucky Charms couldn’t be beat in a battle of the best marshmallow cereals, but that wasn’t the case! We were stunned! Still, Lucky Charms absolutely rule. The oat-y little cereal morsels—which actually have some detectable salt despite being frosted—taste amazing with the crunchy little marshmallows. The box we bought was a Fantastic 4-themed throwback that included jumbo rainbow marshmallows. Honestly, the jumbo rainbows were a bit much. But regular ol’ Lucky Charms is still one of the best marshmallow cereals.

Best of the Best

Honey Maid S’mores Cereal

I bought this cereal on a lark when I was on vacation once, and I absolutely HOUSED the box in, like, two days. It was very pleasing for me to share a bowl with my colleague Justine Sterling and discover she appreciates it as much as I do. You get mini Honey Maid graham crackers (really, they’re exactly like Golden Grahams), chocolatey morsels that are a lot like Cocoa Puffs, and little crunchy marshmallows that look like mini versions of campfire marshmallows. Every bite is so fun. This is good with milk (obviously), but I highly recommend snacking on it straight out of the box. It’s the best marshmallow cereal.

About the Author

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
