Some people like the taste of water. Other people don’t. And for them, there’s a selection of Mio flavors to make their H2O taste a little more like juice. But what’s the best Mio flavor? I lined up 15 glasses of water and squirted in all the Mio flavors I could find in order to let you know.
On the spectrum of water lovers to water haters I am firmly in the middle. I rarely choose to drink water over other beverages. I know my body needs it and I will chug a few pints throughout the day for efficient hydration. But I’m not going to savor a glass of water. That said, I’m not so disgusted by the flavor of water (or lack thereof) that I flavor my water. So, I’m new to Mio. In fact, this taste test of Mio flavors was my first foray into water flavorings.
If you’re totally new to Mio (or just never cared to know what you were imbibing), Mio is a line of water flavorings. There are plain old Mio flavors that simply change the flavor of your water, as well as Mio Hydrate flavors, which include electrolytes and B vitamins, and there are Mio Energy flavors, which include caffeine and B vitamins. For this taste test, I simply bought any Mio flavor I could find. So, you’ll see a mix of standard, Hydrate, and Energy. We’ll update this article and we source more Mio flavors.
Whether you’re also new to Mio or a Mio maestro, here are 15 Mio flavors, ranked from the worst to the best Mio flavors to buy.

- Mio Energy Green Thunder
-
Unless you really, really, really love the flavor of a regular Red Bull, the standard Mio Energy flavor should be avoided at all costs. It doesn’t have much of a flavor at all, it’s more of a sensation of sour and bitter.

- Mio Hydrate Berry Blast
-
I poured a big squirt of each Mio flavor into a small glass of water in order to get as much flavor as possible. But Berry Blast is so subtle, I never really detected much fruit flavoring at all. It ends up just tasting like water that’s gone off.

- Mio Energy Wicked Blue Citrus
-
Another super mild flavor, Wicked Blue Citrus just tastes like blue rather than blue citrus. It’s a little bitter and a little chemically. It definitely reminds me of the aftertaste of blue popsicles or candies—but without any of the other fruity flavors.

- Mio Sweet Tea
-
I was really excited about this flavor because I like sweet tea and I like the idea of sweet tea-flavored water. Sounds great! I expected some tannic tea notes, some honeyed sweetness, maybe a touch of lemon. But nope! There’s no flavor but sweet. You might as well just pour some Splenda into your water.

- Mio Hydrate Lemon Lime
-
This is one of the more interesting Mio flavors out there. You might think you know what you’re going to get from a Lemon Lime Mio—but I promise you, you do not. Sure, it smells like lime Jello. But the flavor is like salty grass. Weird!

- Mio Orange Tangerine
-
I sniffed each of these Mio Flavors like I was a sommelier, and this one hit my nose with a pungent and tart orange Jell-O smell. But the flavor is much more like orange pith—it’s bitter without any sweetness. Not for me!

- Mio Energy Tropical Fusion
-
Way on the other side of the spectrum, this one smells extremely sweet and it tastes extremely sweet. There’s a touch of astringent bitterness on the end; it tastes like caffeine, if you know what I mean. And while the flavor is tropical, there is a much better tropical-inspired Mio flavor on this list if that’s what you’re looking for (check out the #4 spot).

- Mio Strawberry Watermelon
-
Throughout this taste test, I was really surprised by how mild the Mio flavors are. I used more Mio and less water than recommended on the packaging—and the flavors were still quite subtle. And this is probably the most subtle of the bunch. It’s more of a sensation of sweetness rather than an actual flavor.

- Mio Lemonade
-
I really thought this was going to be a slam dunk. Lemon and water: a classic duo. How could it go wrong? It could taste a little like a battery, that’s how. Honestly, this is one of the more okay Mio flavors—it’s tangy and sweet. But there’s nothing lemony about it and it truly does have a bit of a battery aftertaste.

- Mio Mango Peach
-
I never realized how much mango and peach are interchangeable in artificially flavored things until I smelled this Mio. The aroma could be either fake peach or fake mango, because it turns out, they smell very alike when they’re being artificially reproduced. The flavor is sweet. Very sweet. It’s much more peach than mango because it lacks a tropical tang. But if you like sweet and fruity, I think this is one of the better Mio flavors to try.

- Mio Energy Black Cherry
-
Welcome to the official top five best flavors of Mio. I love Cherry Coke. Cherry Coke Zero is probably my favorite soda. And this Mio flavor makes water taste like a flat, watered down cherry cola. So, for me, that’s pretty darn good. It could use a squeeze of lemon or lime for a touch of acidity, but otherwise, I’m happy.

- Mio Energy Strawberry Pineapple
-
Here’s the best Mio flavor for lovers of all things tropical. While I don’t get a lot of pineapple-specific flavor, there is a distinct strawberry flavor. It essentially just tastes like watered down tropical punch. This is definitely the best Mio Energy flavor to buy—you don’t get any of that energy drink aftertaste.

- Mio Berry Pomegranate
-
It’s fruity. It’s actually tart. It doesn’t taste like pomegranate, but it does taste like dark berries—blackberries, black raspberries, etc. If you don’t want your water to taste super sweet, then stop reading here. This is the best Mio flavor for you.

- Mio Fruit Punch
-
Both of the top two best Mio flavors have something in common: They make water taste like a melted popsicle. This one makes water taste like a melted classic “red” popsicle. The flavor is very fruit punch-y. Like, a classic, neon red fruit punch. If you grew up drinking Hawaiian Punch and miss those flavors, then this is the best Mio flavor for you.

- Mio Cherry Blackberry
-
While the Fruit Punch tastes like a generic red popsicle, this one tastes specifically like a Cherry Outshine popsicle. Like, if you dunked one of those popsicles into some water, stirred it around, took it out, and sipped the water. It’s full of cherry flavor—not medicinal at all. So, if cherry doesn’t totally turn you off, it’s definitely the best Mio flavor of the lot.
