Nonalcoholic beer used to be a niche interest. Now, it’s big business. This year has brought us a bumper crop of nonalcoholic beers from some pretty huge names, both across the drinks world and in the entertainment one: A few months ago, Coors launched its first nonalcoholic variant, while none other than Spiderman himself (by which we mean, of course, Tom Holland) brought out several new flavors in his Bero line. It’s all been welcome news for fans of NA beer who have previously had to put up with limited options and, shall we say, some questionable flavors.

Of all of the brews out there, though, which is the best? We finally have our answer, thanks to the inaugural North American Nonalcoholic Cup competition, which recently voted one specific NA beer as the leader of the pack. Let’s break it down.
Best Day Brewing Wild American Pilsner: A First Class Beer
The North American Nonalcoholic (or NANA) Cup announced its winners in June, and out of 109 entries, Best Day Brewing’s Wild American Pilsner took the top spot in the Lager Beer category. The judges in the competition assessed each beer on a combination of style accuracy, technical execution, aroma and flavor balance, and overall drinkability, and awarded those with the highest marks with a Double Gold, Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal. Wild American Pilsner took not only the Double Gold, but also a Best in Show award.
The NANA judges’ assessment of Wild American Pilsner has been supported by other reviews of the beer, which have praised its clean, smooth, balanced flavor profile and gentle maltiness. Made with American-grown ingredients, it’s clear that Best Day Brewing has put a lot of work into its beer – and it’s paying off. One to try while you shake off the July 4 hangover, maybe.
Step Up And Take Your Trophies!
Wild American Pilsner wasn’t the only beer to make a mark at the first NANA Cup. In the Fruited Beer category, Fieldwork Brewing Company’s Day Money was also awarded a Double Gold medal, the only other winner of the highest accolade in the competition. The best hoppy beer, meanwhile, was Big Grove Brewery’s Zero Eddy, while Go Brewing’s New School won Gold in the Sour Beer category. Over in the Dark Beer section, Deschutes Brewery’s Black Butte Non-Alcoholic and Fremont Brewing’s NA Dark both won Bronze medals.
It’s clear there are a lot of good brews out there — and with almost 110 entries in this competition alone, customers are now spoilt for choice. We know which ones we’d pick, though.
