Put down the rolling pin. We’re talking about the best pies at the grocery store—not the best pies you make at home. These are the best grocery store pies that are ready-to-eat or ready-to-bake. There’s no apron, no flour, no pie bird required.

Over the course of many taste tests, we’ve tried a lot of store bought pies, including apple pies, pumpkin pies, pecan pies, and even savory pies like shepherd’s pies and chicken pot pies. And a few of them taste good enough to pass off as homemade. Here are the best pies we’ve ever tasted.

Best Shepherd’s Pie

Blake’s Shepherd’s Pie

Our search for the best shepherd’s pie left us wanting. But, until we find that platonic ideal of ground meat and creamy mashed potatoes, we’re happy to make do with this frozen pie from Blake’s. Technically it’s a cottage pie (it’s made with beef instead of lamb), but we won’t hold that against it. The potatoes are really well seasoned. The corn niblets pop. And the beef is totally acceptable. It’s not perfect (it could use some gravy), but it doesn’t taste frozen. And it’s gluten-free. If you’re looking for a cozy main course that’ll go great with a pint of ale, this is the best store bought pie for you.

Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie

Best Apple Pie

Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie

The streusel topping truly sets this apple pie apart from the rest. It comes in a separate baggie, so there’s no chance of it getting soggy before it even hits the oven. The filling is pretty darn good, too. You get lots and lots of apple—and the apple isn’t mushy. Seriously, this is the best store bought pie to snag when the leaves start to turn.

Bakery Fresh Goodness Pecan Pie

Best Pecan Pie

Bakery Fresh Goodness Pecan Pie

This pecan pie from Kroger’s Bakery Fresh Goodness line is buttery, gooey, nutty, and not too sweet. There’s really no reason to ever make a pecan pie again thanks to this store bought pie. It’s the best pie to bring to a Friendsgiving. Arrive with one of these and a pint of vanilla ice cream and you’ll be dubbed the Thanksgiving champion.

Costco Pumpkin Pie

Best Pumpkin Pie

Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Pie

Do you want a really big pumpkin pie? Then this is the best pie for you. The Costco brand pumpkin pie comes from the bakery, so it’s ready to eat. The pumpkin filling is vibrantly pumpkin-y. It’s not too heavily spiced or sweetened. And the texture stays firm when you cut into it. The crust is buttery and just salty enough. And, once again, this thing is huge and will only cost you around $6.

Best Chicken Pot Pie

Marie Callender’s Chicken Corn Chowder Pot Pie

Yes, Marie Callender’s makes some of the best store bought pies—especially when it comes to frozen pot pies. But the brand’s Chicken Corn Chowder Pot Pie is their crowning achievement. The smoky bacon and sweet corn elevates the creamy chicken. This is comfort food at its best. And it’s waiting for you in the freezer aisle.
