The best ranch dip is creamy, herby, and perfect for dipping chips or veggies. It should make a great midday snack or a perfect party appetizer. Most importantly, it should have everything you love about ranch dressing in thicker, richer dip form.
How we picked the ranch dip for our taste test
Across several taste tests, we tried the most popular, most available, and highest-rated products at the grocery store to find the absolute best ranch dip. We made sure to review cult-favorite brands like Dean’s and Helluva Good Dips alongside generic store brands, lesser known products, and literally anything else we could get our hands on. I’m happy to report we found multiple choices for the best store bought ranch dips, each with its own virtues.
What we looked for in the best ranch dip
The best ranch dips can taste farmer’s-market fresh, or they can taste like Doritos. (Yes, literally, we have a Doritos Cool Ranch Jalapeno Flavored Dip on this list). Ideally, the flavor packs an extra deep, extra tangy ranch flavor with a thick, scoopable texture that makes it distinct from its simpler, more versatile cousin: regular old ranch dressing. So go get your carrot sticks ready. These are the best ranch dips to pair with veggies, chips, wings—wthatever you’ve got.

- Opadipity by Litehouse Yogurt Ranch
-
I went back and forth on whether or not to include this, mainly because I didn’t want the ranch dip purists to be mad at me. Basically, the flavor is a very balanced blend of tzatziki and ranch, but in the best way. It’s super dilly. The greek yogurt enhances the tang and gives it a cleaner, fresher taste, while the ranch seasonings add a surprising zest that hits right at the end. It’s also deceptively thick for something that looks (and fine, tastes) closer to a tzatziki than a ranch dip. This stuff is made by Litehouse, one of our favorite ranch dressing brands, so really I should have expected it to be good all along! —Ariana Losch

- Lay’s Smooth Ranch Dip
-
This is not necessarily the best ranch dip in the entire world, but it’s so deliciously nostalgic. And don’t get me wrong! It’s still delicious, especially in that processed junk food way. It’s thick, goopy, and indescribably ranch-y. I cannot pick out the garlic or dill like you can with freshly made ranch, but it still tastes like ranch! It’s super savory and salty. This is a classic dip for a reason. —Jordan Myrick

- Marzetti Southwest Ranch
-
This takes everything we love about Marzetti’s regular ranch dip (see below) and adds a peppery blend of Southwest spices. It’s a little smoky, spicy, and savory. I’m basically salivating at the idea of dunking crispy chicken tenders in it. Marzetti, in my humble opinion, makes one of the best thick and creamy ranch dip textures you can find, too. A ruffle chip moving through a tub of this stuff in slow-mo is downright erotic. Sorry, I don’t know what’s gotten into me, but this is one of the best store bought ranch dips and I love it. Perhaps too much. —Ariana Losch

- Helluva Good! Dip Buttermilk Ranch
-
Helluva Good dips always bring the exact texture I want from a dip: rich, thick, and sturdy enough to cling to a chip. More importantly, I’ve literally never had a ranch dip with so much bold buttermilk flavor. The sharp tang is like a spark in your mouth. It’s delicious—you’ll be going in for seconds automatically. Plus, Helluva Good dips have a unique quality of tasting homemade, or like something you picked up at a farmer’s market. It’s not the “ranchiest” ranch dip we tried, but it’s definitely a fan favorite for good reason. —Ariana Losch

-
Marzetti makes some of the best ranch dip out there for dipping fresh veggies. They obviously know it, too. This stuff is explicitly called “veggie dip.” It tastes like the best version of the ranch you get with a grocery store vegetable platter. It’s thick and perfect for scooping up with a baby carrot. Speaking of carrots, this ranch dip has carrots in it! The carrot flavor doesn’t really stand out, but they do add a nice bit of texture. Your vegetables are screaming to be dipped in Marzetti. —Jordan Myrick

- Dean’s Ranch Dip
-
My boss, Gwynedd Stuart, was like, “Dean’s is the best.” I was skeptical for some reason. You know it’s the best ranch dip without tasting any other ranch dips? I owe her an apology, though. I never should have doubted her. It is the best! It tastes like making ranch with the Hidden Valley seasoning packet, except it’s thicker, richer, and there is absolutely no mixing required. If you want the best ranch dip when it comes to flavor, texture, and richness, you absolutely have to go with Dean’s. —Jordan Myrick
