The best sugar free coffee creamer should make your morning cup of coffee just as creamy and delicious as a sweetened creamer or half-and-half would. Frankly, I’m addicted to sugar-packed coffee creamer. There are very few joys in life and, for me, the sugar and carbs in Chobani Sweet Cream (our entire team’s favorite coffee creamer) are prices I’m willing to pay for happiness. That said, for a variety of dietary reasons, a lot of people can’t guzzle straight-up cream and sugar in the morning. This ranking of the best zero sugar coffee creamer (and one low sugar coffee creamer, too) is for you.
For this taste test, I brewed up a few cups of Dunkin’ medium roast coffee in the ol’ Keurig at work and tasted my way through a bunch of popular brands. I was looking for creamers that make coffee—surprise—creamier. Given that these are all sugar free or zero added sugar, they are either unsweetened or sweetened with artificial sugar substitutes. If they were sweetened, we decided they shouldn’t taste like crap or have a gross aftertaste that turns the reliably excellent act of enjoying a cup of coffee into a sad affair. We also wanted them to be true to their flavors. These are the best sugar free coffee creamers you can buy. (If you’re looking for the best coffee creamers with sugar, we have you covered. And if you’re looking for the best non-dairy coffee creamers, we ranked those, too.)
- Coffee mate Zero Sugar French Vanilla
-
This would not be my first choice (clearly, since it’s in fifth place), but if you like a French vanilla coffee creamer, which a lot of people apparently do, you could do much worse than Coffee mate Zero Sugar. It is creamier and better tasting than International Delights’ zero sugar vanilla creamer, and has a better flavor overall, too. The phony sweetener (acesulfame potassium, in this case) is definitely present on the finish. And like all Coffee mate products, it is largely made of water, corn syrup, and oil. It’s not the best zero sugar coffee creamer, but it’s a pleasant stand-in for the sugary stuff if you’re cutting down on sugar or carbs.

- International Delights Zero Sugar Caramel Macchiato
-
International Delights French vanilla was a no, but their Caramel Macchiato flavor is pretty good. It’s less caramelly than Starbucks’ version and it’s made of junk (water, palm oil, and malodextrin), but if you aren’t terribly disturbed by the flavor of artificial sweeteners, this is good. Yes, it’s predominantly oil, but it tastes indulgent with a nice creamy finish. If you want a coffee creamer that feels fatty even though it’s almost fat free (just 2 grams), this is among the best sugar free coffee creamers.

- Nutpods Almond + Coconut Cookie Butter
-
We’ve had Nutpods’ plant-based coffee creamers in other taste tests, but they’ve never made much of an impression. For real, I don’t know if they changed their formulation or what, but the Nutpods we tried during this taste test were excellent. If you’re vegan or lactose-intolerant but want a sweet, creamy cup of coffee, Nutpods makes the best zero sugar coffee creamer going. I will repeat, though, that this is sweet. Very, very Sweet. It’s sweetened with both erythritol (which is the second ingredient after almond milk) and stevia leaf extract. But I loved that this has a really pleasant speculoos flavor without being too spicy and tasting like a pumpkin spice creamer. There’s a time and a place for that.

- Starbucks Zero Creamer Caramel Macchiato
-
I fondly remember a time when ordering a caramel macchiato at Starbucks (probably at an airport) was the height of sophistication. Now, I think they’re too sweet, but it was fun to revisit that flavor via this no-sugar-added creamer. It’s very important to note that this creamer isn’t totally sugar free, although its sugar content is less than 1 gram per serving. If you are on a strict no-sugar diet, be forewarned! But if you’re just looking for something low sugar and low carb but still very caramelly and sweet (it’s sweetened with sucralose), this is a pretty good coffee creamer. And the first two ingredients are nonfat milk and heavy cream!

- Nutpods Almond + Coconut Toasted Marshmallow
-
I didn’t expect to love a totally unsweetened sugar-free coffee creamer, but here we are. Sometimes no sweetener is better than bad artificial sweeteners, and this plant-based creamer is proof. A mix of almond milk and coconut cream make this super indulgent and creamy, plus it has a subtle, pleasant, slightly toasty marshmallow flavor without being cloying—all you get is the suggestion of sweetness. If you’re preoccupied with nutrition info, I’m pleased to report that this creamer only has 10 calories per serving and 1 gram of fat. It’s the best zero sugar coffee creamer we tasted.
