And, after our most recent White Claw taste test, we’re also prepared to let you in on the best White Claw Surge flavors and ClawTails flavors.

A nice thing about White Claw is that along with solo cans, it’s sold in three different variety packs with four flavors each, plus a 24-pack with six different White Claw flavors. This is great if you like variety, but it also means a few cans of your least favorite flavors are going to take up permanent residency in your fridge. We included the variety pack number along with the seltzer flavor when applicable, so you can choose wisely the next time you’re at the store (sadly, each one has some bangers and some duds).
Listen. Our hard seltzer tastes diverge here and there, but this is still a helpful guide to the best White Claw flavors, White Claw Surge flavors, and ClawTails flavors.
White Claw ClawTails Flavors, Ranked
ClawTails are the newest addition to the White Claw family of boozy canned beverages. They’re canned cocktails, essentially. Not cocktail-flavored seltzers, but actual canned cocktails. I mean, sure, they’re still malt beverages, but they’re made with actual juice.
- ClawTails Blackberry Mojito
-
A Mojito, blackberry or otherwise, is made with rum, sugar, and fresh mint. The mint is the most important ingredient. It makes a Mojito taste like a Mojito. And the flavor of fresh mint doesn’t translate to canned cocktails. This is no exception. It tastes a bit like a liquid, fizzy cannabis edible. It’s dank, to put it nicely. — Justine Sterling

- ClawTails Mango Margarita
-
I don’t mind this canned Mango Margarita. It’s definitely mango-y. And it also tastes a bit like jalapeno, just without any actual spice. The finish is less than delicious, though. It tastes a bit stale, like mango that’s slightly off or like it was made with old fridge ice. You know the stuff. Add a spritz of actual lime, though, and it might fix that. — Justine Sterling

- ClawTails Tropical Mai Tai
-
This canned Mai Tai tastes like barbecue sauce. Not in a bad way, necessarily. But it’s kinda shocking when you first take a sip because you aren’t ready for that level of smoky flavor. If they called this a Smoked Mai Tai or a BBQ Mai Tai, I think people would really dig it. It’s a little intense for me as is. I’d pour it over a lot of crushed ice or cut it with some of the Natural Lime White Claw, as one taste tester suggested. — Justine Sterling

- ClawTails Strawberry Cosmo
-
This is straight juice. It’s sweet, sweet strawberry juice. I couldn’t detect much cranberry flavor, but that’s okay. Because this sugary, boozy juice tastes just fine without it (nothing like a Cosmo, but just fine all the same). If you’ve got first pick of a variety pack of ClawTails this is the best ClawTails flavor to grab. — Justine Sterling

White Claw Surge Flavors, Ranked
White Claw Surge is White Claw’s boozier line of hard seltzers. They come in at 8% ABV. And, honestly, they’re not my cup of tea.
- White Claw Surge Blood Orange
-
It’s hard to put my finger on why this tastes so bad. It tastes like a mistake. It tastes like what drinks tasted like when you were first mixing them yourself as a
17-year-old21-year-old. It just tastes wrong. Hard skip. — Justine SterlingCredit: Liv Averett / Ralphs
- White Claw Surge Cranberry
-
For a cranberry drink, it is oddly lacking in acidity. It tastes more like the memory of a fruit snack—if that fruit snack came from a bog. Gwynedd described it as “bad breathy.” There’s really nothing more to say about that. — Justine Sterling

- White Claw Surge Blackberry
-
It smells like a Flintstones vitamin and it tastes like one too. If you’ve been pining for that flavor ever since you graduated from little pastel Freds to grown-up vitamin gummies, then you’re going to be really satisfied by this White Claw Surge flavor. — Justine Sterling

- White Claw Surge Lime
-
While I’m simply not a fan of White Claw Surge, the Lime flavor is the best of the bunch. It tastes a lot like the regular White Claw Natural Lime—just with more of an overt booze flavor. If you’re the type to spike your White Claws with vodka then you’re going to be A-OK with this flavor of White Claw Surge. — Justine Sterling

White Claw Hard Seltzer Flavors, Ranked
White Claw continues to release new flavors of its classic hard seltzer and mixing up its variety packs. Here’s our updated ranking of all the White Claw flavors.
- White Claw Passion Fruit
-
Passion Fruit can tend to be a real neither-here-nor-there flavor and that’s the case here. It’s offensive in its mediocrity, but, worse yet, it smells kind of gross? As soon as I cracked open the can I was like, man, I love booze, but I kind of don’t want to drink this. — Gwynedd Stuart

- White Claw Blackberry (Variety Pack No. 3)
-
I recently visited Knott’s Berry Farm for the first time—it’s cute and everything smells vaguely like boysenberries (seriously, they pipe the smell into the stores and at least one of the rides). Anyway, that’s what this White Claw flavor reminded me of. It’s very mild, so if you like a bold hard seltzer flavor, you probably won’t love this. It’s not unpleasant, but has a little bit of a bath product vibe. — Gwynedd Stuart

- White Claw Tangerine
-
I firmly believe tangerines are better than oranges. They’re smaller, easier to peel (depending on the genetic modifications, I suppose), and they have a gentler flavor, too. They’re smaller and they taste smaller, in a good way. This White Claw has that tangerine flavor that leans sweet rather than tart—but it leans too sweet. Still, it’s the best White Claw flavor if you like orange soda. — Gwynedd Stuart

- White Claw Ruby Grapefruit
-
Is it just me or is grapefruit seltzer sort of played out? Behind Mango (and maybe Black Cherry), this strikes me as the most accessible White Claw flavor, but I just don’t really think it’s among the best White Claw flavors. If you want a citrus seltzer, I highly recommend trying White Claw Natural Lime, but we’ll get to that … — Gwynedd Stuart

- White Claw Pineapple (Variety Pack No. 1)
-
I’d never had Pineapple White Claw before and now I think I know why! Turns out almost all of the more obscure White Claw flavors are also the least good White Claw flavors. Pineapple-flavored hard seltzer can be so summery and refreshing—I absolutely love pineapple-flavored High Noon—but this White Claw just doesn’t live up to its pineapple promises. It tastes very Bath & Body Works. — Gwynedd Stuart

- White Claw Lemon (Variety Pack No. 2)
-
A lot of lemon-flavored carbonated beverages taste like lemon-scented floor cleaner smells. In my opinion, that’s the case with this White Claw flavor. It’s stringent rather than tart. It’s not the worst White Claw flavor, but it certainly isn’t the best White Claw flavor either. — Gwynedd Stuart

- White Claw Peach (Variety Pack No. 2)
-
I liked this flavor more than my comrades. It has a pretty classic artificial peach flavor and it’s a bit more potent than other White Claws. That said, it’s definitely one note and definitely leans sweet. If you’re looking to make some sort of White Claw iced tea cocktail, this is probably the best White Claw flavor to pick. But are you really going to do that? — Justine Sterling

- White Claw Green Apple
-
My colleague Gwynedd really digs this somewhat unexpected flavor. It doesn’t taste like traditional fake green apple. It’s not like fizzy Pucker. Instead, it tastes more like a carbonated version of those caramel apple lollipops you get in the fall. It’s sweet in a caramelly way with pops of zippy green apple tang. It feels wrong to drink this White Claw flavor at any time but autumn. — Justine Sterling

- White Claw Raspberry (Variety Pack No. 2)
-
This flavor doesn’t have very prominent placement on this list, but it’s actually pretty good. It’s fruity and juicy and reminded me of one of those raspberry hard candies with the goo in the center (real grandma’s purse stuff). My (very personal) problem is that most raspberry-flavored alcoholic beverages taste nefariously like raspberry Smirnoff vodka, which I drank/vomited way too much of in college in the early ‘00s. Don’t let my hang-ups ruin your good time! — Gwynedd Stuart
Credit: Liv Averett / White Claw
- White Claw Watermelon
-
White Claw isn’t really sweet (they’re all sugar free), but some flavors come off as sweeter than others—this is one of them. And it’s not a bad thing! This watermelon flavor struck me as a cross between genuine and fake watermelon flavor—fruity and refreshing, but with a little bit of a watermelon gummy edge. It’s quite nice and a real summertime refresher. — Gwynedd Stuart
Credit: Liv Averett / White Claw
- White Claw Natural Lime (Variety Pack No. 1)
-
White Claw Natural Lime is leaps and bounds better than White Claw Lemon. It has a really fresh, genuine lime flavor—freshly sliced lime, not Skittles lime. It works perfectly with White Claw’s robust effervescence. This is a grown-up White Claw flavor, but a cool grown-up who still skateboards even though it’s bad for their hips. — Gwynedd Stuart
Credit: Liv Averett / White Claw
- White Claw Strawberry (Variety Pack No. 3)
-
I love strawberry seltzer. Strawberry Spindrift is my seltzer of choice; it’s perfect. Strawberry White Claw is a good approximation of a good strawberry seltzer, and that makes it one of the best White Claw flavors, for sure. It’s sophisticated, but also reminds me just a little of Flintstones Vitamins in that nice, nostalgic way. I would drink a lot of these. — Gwynedd Stuart
Credit: Liv Averett / White Claw
- White Claw Black Cherry (Variety Pack No. 1)
-
If hard seltzer is too subdued for you, try Black Cherry White Claw. This has a big, bold cherry flavor that reminds me of New York Seltzer Black Cherry (which is a soda, not a seltzer, really). It’s juicy, delicious, and accessible. Anecdotally, I see this one at a lot of bars and casinos—hey, I like Vegas. Sue me! — Gwynedd Stuart
Credit: Liv Averett / White Claw
- White Claw Mango (Variety Pack No. 3)
-
White Claw has only existed since 2016, but I swear to god, this flavor is already nostalgic to me. The flavor is so specific that every time I drink it, I’m transported back to an outdoor concert or Dodgers game where I enjoyed a big ol’ can of it. It’s also the only White Claw flavor that made our ranking of the best hard seltzers. As Justine said, “It tastes like a beach vacation, refreshing and crisp.” It’s the best White Claw flavor of them all. — Gwynedd Stuart
